The Mark Lawwell quit rumour

According to a well known member of the Kerrydale Street Forum a rumour os going around that Mark Lawwell is working his notice.

After four utterly disastrous transfer windows Celtic fans will be hoping that the clubs Head of First Team Recruitment and Scouting is on gardening leave and being kept away from anything to do with transfers.

Michael Nicholson told Celtic shareholders that Lawwell Mini had been head hunted by Ange Postecoglou but outwith a small number of sycophants no one believed that claim from the Celtic chairman.

While the former Australian national team manager tried to take John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan with him to Spurs he didn’t go anywhere near the talentless son of the current Celtic Chairman.

McSwain pops up now and then on Celtic podcasts, giving the impression that he knows people that know people.

Mini’s career is something of a mystery with zero evidence to back up his Linkedin profile or the claims made by Celtic when his appointment was announced in May 2022.

After signing Liel Abada, Kyogo Furuhashi, Carl Starfelt, Josip Juranovic, Joe Hart, Jota , Cameron Carter-Vickers and Giorgos Giakoumakis in the summer of 2021 Mini snapped up Alexandro Bernabei, Ben Siegrist, Sead Haksabanovic and Oliver Abilgaard a year later.

The drop off was incredible, topped off by seven projects in the summer of 2023 two of which have already been shipped out on loan with Gus Lagerbielke denied his move to Lecce due to an injury to Carter-Vickers.

If Mini does leave Celtic it will almost certainly bring a reaction from the club chairman to strengthen his grip up on the club.

Only a complete boardroom revamp that results in the retirement of the Chairman and his placemen will give Celtic the chance to enter the 21st century of recruitment and give the manager a fighting chance of emulating the European exploits of Copenhagen, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven.

Next month it will be 20 years since Celtic won a knock-out tie in a UEFA competition with that landmark coming six months after Lawwell became CEO.

Absolutely nothing is known of Mark’s career before he became Head of Scouting and Recruitment at City, unless of course that is a lie on his Linkedin profile.
