Pre-match Steely was gibbering away like an excited schoolboy anticipating seeing his club win the SPFL Premiership title for the first time.

Just after 5pm he had that weary look of someone that has been watching Captain Tavernier and various others capitulate to Celtic since the joys of lifting the 2016 Petrofac Cup victory over Peterhead.

In the build up to the match hopes were high as the 10 match race to glory got underway but early on things weren’t going to plan.

Theo Bair’s ninth minute opener has been edited out but the groans, worries and concern was building up during the first half with Motherwell failing to crumble.

After a lengthy VAR check Tavpen does what he normally does to equalise on the hour, 15 minutes later Captain Disappointed was posted missing as Dan Casey headed in at the back post to put Motherwell back in front.

The desperation stretched through 10 minutes of added time before Alan Muir blew the final whistle, plunging Steely back into reality after four months in Clement Wonderland.

Afterwards he trails out of the stadium with all those familiar insecurities about a leadership group of serial losers.
