Respected source gives detail on winger making Celtic exit

Transfer

Liel Abada is reported to be holding talks with Charlotte FC about a permanent move from Celtic.

The winger has been left out of Celtic’s last five squads with his appearance off the bench away to Hibs on February 7 looking like a farewell.

Abada signed a new Celtic contract at the start of September but was soon injured on international duty then put in the spotlight by the situation in Gaza with a very visible element of the Celtic support demonstrating their backing for Palestine.

Those issues are way outwith the remit of any football manager with Brendan Rodgers resigned to life without Abada.

Tonight on Football Scotland Mark Hendry reported:

Liel Abada is holding talks with Charlotte in MLS over a Celtic transfer exit.

Football Scotland understands the winger, 22, has been in conversations with the US outfit over a switch since the end of last week and the fee could come close to around £10million for the Israeli.

Abada was recently “not in the right frame of mind” to play for the club, as Brendan Rodgers explained, following the ongoing Middle East conflict amid the Hoops’ fanbase’s public backing of Palestine.

Hendry has become a fairly reliable source of Celtic news, in June 2022 he was first to link the club with an interest in Alexandro Bernabei.

The signing of Nicolas Kuhn from Rapid Vienna in January looked like providing cover for Abada but so far the German winger has failed to make much of an impression.

If Abada does depart it is another significant loss from last season’s Treble winning side with Jota, Carl Starfelt and Aaron Mooy all leaving last summer.
