The reassuring figure of Cameron Carter-Vickers looks certain to be back in the Celtic defence on Saturday to face St Johnstone.

It would be an understatement to describe the defender as having an injury interrupted season, his absence from the Scottish Cup win over Livingston was the fifth time this season that injury had forced him onto the sidelines.

Last season Carter-Vickers underwent knee surgery following Celtic’s victory in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, since then things have never seemed quite right with the former Spurs man.

Picking up on an interview with Celtic TV, the Daily Record report Rodgers saying:

We will have a look at Cameron Carter Vickers, he should be fine, it was precaution. I spoke to Cam at length this morning, he just feels everything is based from around his knee operation.

Also, when you have picked up a few injuries from that, you get that sensation and think it’s linked to another injury. Thankfully, it doesn’t seem to be that.

We’ve had the scan which has come through fine, he’s done some work with the medical team and hopefully he will rejoin the training squad on Thursday and Friday.

Luis Palma was always going to be after the international break.

Fans will have to wait until Friday for detail on Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor.

Neither will be involved against St Johnstone but with a 15 day break before the match away to Livingston there could be some progress although playing on a plastic pitch isn’t ideal when returning from injury.

After that the countdown is underway to Ibrox and a match where Rodgers will need as many of last season’s big hitters as possible on his team-sheet.
