SFA bottle it from Brendan as they opt for Caldwell’s Compromise

As predicted by Video Celts on Wednesday Brendan Rodgers will be in the Celtic dug out for next Sunday’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox.

The Celtic boss was charged with a breech of Rule 72 for describing John Beaton’s use of VAR as incompetent during Celtic’s 2-0 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.

A minimum punishment of a two match touchline suspension was widely reported across the media but in 2019 Gary Caldwell, managing Partick Thistle at the time, faced a similar charge after describing Andrew Dallas as arrogant.

Reporting on his Notice of Appeal the Thistle website stated:

Thursday 14th February, 2019 at 2:00pm

Gary Caldwell has been handed an immediate one-match suspension following a Scottish FA Judicial panel hearing at Hampden today.

The manager was found to be in breach of Disciplinary Rules 72 and 203 and will be banned from the dugout for Saturday’s trip to Alloa Athletic.

Gary has also been given an additional one-match ban, suspended until the end of the 2018/19 season.

At 2.14 today The Scottish Sun reported the same punishment for Rodgers although at 3.15 there was nothing on the SFA website to confirm the decision.

A one match touchline ban will see Rodgers in the stand at Livingston on Sunday and back in place for the match at Ibrox on Sunday.

With Don Robertson again in charge for the match at Livingston any Celtic player red carded will be suspended for the trip to Ibrox.

Today’s one match ban is believed to be a great relief to Ian Maxwell and Peter Lawwell with neither side expected to comment on the case.
