Brendan Rodgers has no regrets over his post-match comments at Tynecastle that have landed him a one match touchline ban.

The Celtic boss reacted to the interventions of John Beaton in the VAR studio that resulted in Don Robertson sending off Yang Hyun-jun after 15 minutes with Hearts awarded a penalty shortly before half time.

After the match Rodgers questioned the competence of Beaton which was quickly brought to the attention of the SFA who issued a Notice of Complaint against the Celtic manager.

On Thursday at Hampden Rodgers was given a two match touchline ban with one of them suspended until the end of the season dependent on the actions of the Celtic boss.

For the first time in a managerial career stretching almost 20 years Rodgers won’t be allowed into the dug out or the dressing room at half-time on Sunday.

Despite that sanction the Celtic boss told Sky Sports News that he has no regrets over his comments.

Do you have any regrets?

No, no, I just think that there was misunderstanding of interpretation really, I think. In all of my time in Scotland I’ve always talked about the standards, to improve the standards whether that is, VAR on this occasion, whether it was about the fields, the pitches that we play on. So my whole drive, always up here has always been about the standards and I just feel that on that day (at Hearts) it wasn’t quite where we’d want it to be.

The interpretation was maybe misconstrued, misunderstood but certainly I have no regret over it, no.

John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan will be in radio contact with their boss in the stand at the Tony Macaroni Arena.

So, when sevco voiced their displeasure with Collum vs Celtic, they couldn’t have done it in a public manner, or else it would have broke the same rule!
So, how come everybody knew about it and Collum hasn’t been back to ipox?
Do these people think that other people can’t think for themselves or put two and two together?
Or do they live in their own space, seperated from reality and all other people?
Or do they think there is one set of rules for everybody else and another set of rules for them?

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

Cleverly put without incriminating himself knowing no Celtic Manager will ever be allowed freedom of speech !

  • the maister says:

There was liveTV evidence that a sevco player knocked the yellow card out of Willie Collum’s hand as he went to book a sevco player.
But it was never brought to book, nor reported nor followed up on. It was ignored!
How long can supporters continue to pay to watch this level of nonsense before they decide, enough – and walk away?

For the avoindance of doubt, that is an assault of an official on the field of play!

Feckin’ cop out Brendan…Missed opportunity to tell them the truth…Which is …The game is rigged and we don’t accept your findings…So we get what we deserve…End of.

    Between the lines.
    I have not apologized.
    I still feel the same

  • Stephen says:

Sooner VAR is gone from our courpt game the better.
It’s just another tool for sevco to cheat.

    • John L says:

The one thing that the manager should not have said was, that VAR is relatively new,for goodness sake don’t give the clowns who are running the asylum excuses to keep making mistakes.

Ange, told the bampots that, it was not new and that they should have been ready before they rolled it out.

I know its bad and, it highlights the cheating A-holes, but, without it the linesmen would just be running up and down with their flags up in the air, I’m torn between knowing that they are cheating or highlighting it.

It’s actually a very good response. What was there to be misconstrued? Nothing. There was no ambiguity in his original comments. Nothing that could be misinterpreted. So if you actually disregard Rodgers’s meaningless reference to comments being misconstrued, what he’s saying is that he fully stands behind his view of incompetence. Clever response Brendan. However, if our club really wanted to ‘go to war’ with these unaccountable beaks at Hampden, the next step would have been to appeal the ban. A missed opportunity. Clearly not something Peter would want to indulge. He’s put up the faux fight as a show trial. Time to keep calm and move along the bus now.
