The Police Scotland Dumbarton investigation

Police Scotland are investigating an incident from East Fife’s match against Dumbarton on Saturday.

It is believed that a fairly specific comment was aimed at Gallagher Lennon that went way beyond the norm with the player’s mother watching the game.

The on loan St Mirren defender has been the subject of abuse previously, noticeably in a Scottish Cup tie against Philippe Clement’s side which failed to be picked up by the mainstream media despite being broadcast live by Viaplay Sport. The broadcaster made no comment.

Dumbarton stated:

Dumbarton Football Club can confirm that we are aware of an alleged incident that took place at our match away to East Fife on Saturday, and this is being investigated by Police Scotland.

The club has, and will continue, to offer support to the player involved and his family.

Dumbarton Football Club adheres to a zero tolerance policy and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The club will make no further comment at this time.

It is rumoured that the incident being investigated involved language stronger than good girl.
