It seems that an appearance or two on PLZ or Go-Radio is enough to justify the tag of top pundit.

With Kenny Miller, Neil McCann, Kris Boyd and Billy Dodds at the top of the pundit league the bar for Scottish ‘experts’ is set exceptionally low.

On PLZ Tam McManus (formerly of Hibs, Dundee, Falkirk and Ayr) has been warning Callum McGregor that he faces a real fight to get into the star studded Scotland midfield!

Admittedly John McGinn and Scott McTominay have carried the team to the European Championship finals but both would be quick to point to the role of McGregor- the only Scottish player to score at a major finals this century.

Yes, more goals that Barry Ferguson, James McFarlane, Kenny Miller and Kris Boyd combined.

The cover for ditching McGregor is the form of Billy Gilmour and Lewis Ferguson, you don’t need to be in the CID to put together the motivations for completing that jigsaw. Ryan Jack and Kenny McLean are other contenders.

Last night against the Championship Select that is the north of Ireland Scotland were unable to score a goal or create a worthwhile chance despite the array of midfield talent identified by McManus and others.

Every Celtic fan will be hoping that McGregor is involved in Sunday’s match away to Livingston, Scotland boss Clarke will be desperate to have the Celtic skipper on call to avoid a humiliating start to the Euros when Germany provide the opposition.

In 2001 McManus was left out of the Hibs squad for the Scottish Cup Final, watching Martin O’Neill’s side win their first treble in 32 years.
