X-rated- watch Scott Brown react to brutal challenge on Ayr star as top referee reaches for yellow

Scott Brown, James McFadden and Michael Stewart were all shocked by the brutality of the challenge by Dean McMaster on Harry McHugh in last night’s match between Ayr United and Airdrie.

All three have played at the highest level with CVs covering Celtic, Manchester United and Everton as well as over 100 combined caps for Scotland.

They knew how to give it out, how to push the limits and suffered from some heavy challenges as opponents fancied putting one on a ‘name’.

Last night David Munro, a regular in the Premiership couldn’t have been better placed as McMaster slid in with both feet off the ground knowing that he could inflict serious injury on his opponent.

If that was only a yellow card then it is frightening to imagine what level of brutality would earn a red card from Munro.

Brown said:

The tackle on Harry near the end was a disgrace. It could have ended someone’s career. The referee is stood yards away from it and thought it was a yellow, which I don’t understand.

Munro refereed Celtic’s 3-0 win away to Ross County in November which saw a Liam Scales ‘goal’ disallowed for the tamest of contact as well as a number of strong penalty claims ignored by Munro and Andrew Dallas on VAR. A ‘goal’ by Oh Hyeon-gyu was disallowed with barely believable VAR lines produced to justify the decision.
