Arsenal legend sets the record straight for Ibrox fan boy Jim White

Martin Keown wasn’t prepared to sit back and let Jim White dribble all over his Ibrox heroes in the TalkSPORT studio.

While all of the presenters on the radio station are quite comfortable in discussing the club that they support the former Hillead High School pupil has spent his career trying to deny his support for both Ibrox clubs.

Whether it is Charles Green lying in a hospital bed or Dave King pretending that he owns a vintage wine collection White can be guaranteed to deliver the sort of softball questions that have made him a hero to media giants such as David Tanner, Kenny Macintyre and Tom English.

Recently White hosted an evening with Philippe Clement and Graeme Souness during which he revived the interviewing technique that he perfected with Brian Laudrup.

Two days before Celtic visit Ibrox White was drooling over the brilliance of the former Monaco boss but Keown wasn’t quite as star-struck.

With White getting into his stride over his Belgian pin-up the Daily Record reported him saying:

He has been impressive in his short time there. I think this guy has got a hold of the club and I think in his first season they are well capable of doing it. Who wins on Sunday is significant and important. Celtic have shown in the past they don’t need friends or fans there, but I just have a feeling Rangers will do it this time.

Keown brought some reality with:

Yeah, you may have that feeling but I am pretty certain that Brendan Rodgers will be going in there with that big game experience. He has a lot of experience going in there compared to the Rangers manager, and they recently lost to Motherwell at home.

So why can’t Celtic go there and win? We all know that it’s a different mentality when you go there as a Celtic player and you are playing at a full house. Whoever wins this one will be Scottish champions.

In May 1998 the former STV reporter appeared emotionally distressed as Wim Jansen won Celtic’s first league title in a decade.
