Beaton got it wrong! SFA undermine their top referee

Three days before he takes charge of the Glasgow Derby the SFA have been forced to overturn a red card dished out by John Beaton.

Ahead of his big match as Ibrox the SFA put Beaton in charge of the Championship match between Partick Thistle and Inverness Caley Thistle in the hope that it would keep the Bellshill based official out of the spotlight.

With minimal TV coverage, no Fourth Official or VAR Beaton was on his own as he booked Cammy Kerr then sent him off for a ‘second’ yellow card offence.

The on loan defender was red carded in the 66th minute, with his team losing 1-0 to remain second bottom in the Championship and facing a likely Play Off to avoid relegation.

Had Beaton applied the Laws of the Game correctly Inverness may well have take a point or won the match.

Today the Caley Thistle website reported:

The club is pleased to announce that following our appeal to the SFA Fast Track Tribunal, the red card given to Cammy Kerr by referee John Beaton has been rescinded along with the yellow card he received for simulation. Cammy is now available for selection this Saturday.

In October Kerr was awarded a Testimonial Match with Celtic providing the opposition.

Caley Thistle are four points behind Queens Park in eighth place with five matches left to play.
