Beaton’s double standards- Watch Diomande’s incredible ‘good luck’ on Operation Hatate

Mohamed Diomande has quickly discovered just how generous and forgiving Scottish referees are.

The midfielder moved to Ibrox from Nordsjaelland during the January break with virtually no attention played to the disciplinary record of the ‘playmaker’.

In 20 matches for the Danish side this season, covering domestic competition and the Europa Conference League he picked up nine yellow cards including an amazing run of seven in his final nine matches before getting the call to Ibrox.

Scottish football seems to be much more forgiving for Diomande, especially when John Beaton is refereeing such as in Sunday’s Glasgow Derby.

In 10 domestic matches since joining the Clement Revolution the 22-year-old has only been booked once, in the recent home win over Dundee.

As the reel above demonstrates Diomande took full advantage of Beaton’s inconsistency, also making his debut in the fixture Nicolas Kuhn found himself treated very differently.

Reo Hatate seemed to be a favourite target for the Ibrox new boy, there were five ‘challenges’ in the first half alone that would be punished in normal circumstances, after the third or fourth a yellow card would have been issued which would have curtailed Diomande for the remainder of the match. But not on Sunday.

He was enabled to arrive late into challenges unpunished until the 79th minute when he was substituted. Job done.

This weekend Beaton will be on VAR duty at St Johnstone v Kilmarnock where Calum Spence will be out on the pitch.
