Philippe Clement has admitted that he isn’t expecting to have Ryan Jack fit again this season.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season which suggests that his seven year stay at Ibrox is about to come to an end.

Jack was signed by Pedro Caixinha in the summer of 2017 as a free agent from Aberdeen and has started just 106 SPFL matches. He was, however, world class coming off the bench against Celtic in February 2022 when he hit the bar with a late shot.

A variety of muscle related injuries have dogged Jack during his time at Ibrox, his last appearance was as a 77th minute substitute away to Benfica on February 10, last week he broke down again as he competed for a place on the bench against Celtic.

Asked if Jack would be available again this season Clement admitted:

That’s a difficult one. He was on a good way back last week but then felt it again a bit so we are now looking at other solutions to get him back. So we’ve lost some time there.

It’s week-by-week looking at the situation. It’s a problem with his calves that has been there for years, so it needs to be solved.

I’m also not a manager who wants to get a player back for one game and then he’s out for three months or has a risk for the rest of his career.

With his Ibrox deal finishing next month Jack is expected to join Hearts on a pay as you play deal.

Kemar Roofe, John Lundstram, Borna Barisic and Leon Balogun are also out of contract at the end of this season.
