On Saturday at Hampden Don Robertson will take charge of the Celtic v Aberdeen Scottish Cup semi-final, his third Celtic match since the start of March.
Last night Robertson refereed the visit of Philippe Clement’s side to Dundee, showing the sort of inconsistency that ensures that no Scottish referees will be at the European Championships this summer.
With an uninterrupted view Robertson watched John Souttar use his right arm to scoop the ball away as Lyall Cameron was breaking into the penalty box.
There wasn’t a moment’s hesitation as the match referee ignored the penalty claim safe in the knowledge that Alan Muir on VAR was highly unlikely to request a pitchside review.
No penalty to Dundee. He basically caught it in his hand ??? pic.twitter.com/9m8cmPh7TM

Strangely enough at Tynecastle at the start of March Robertson was only too happy to award a penalty against Tomoki Iwata from an incident that no-one else judged to be worthy of a penalty.
With Dundee three points behind St Mirren in the race for a European place Robertson’s failure to apply the Laws of the Game could turn out to be very costly.
Dundee will be pleased with a point and the ease in which they contained Rangers, but they’ll be wondering why Dom Robertson never gave them a penalty for Souttar’s handball, (given his previous decisions), and what looked like a Goldson last man red card.
