SFA put David Dickinson in control of Celtic v St Mirren

David Dickinson will be on VAR duty on Saturday for Celtic’s match at home to St Mirren.

Anyone with any knowledge of his family on social media will know exactly what to expect from the Renfrew based whistler who has taken charge of three matches involving Philippe Clement’s side since the order went out that Willie Collum wouldn’t be acceptable.

Steven McLean, notorious since the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final against Inverness Caley Thistle will referee the match, his younger brother started his career as a Murray Park starlet and mistakenly thought that he qualified as a Northern Irish internationalist.

McLean has refereed Celtic twice this season, in the 1-1 home draw with Motherwell in November and the 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen in February.

In his most recent high profile match he sent off two Hibs players as they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup to Charles Green’s 2012 Tribute Act.

Matthew MacDermid will referee Ross County’s home match against Clement’s side with Andrew Dallas once again on VAR to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

After his efforts at Ibrox on Sunday John Beaton has an easier shift on VAR duty for St Johnstone v Kilmarnock meaning that he’ll be in the same building as Dallas and Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.

No Scottish referees are expected to be involved at the European Championships in Germany this summer.

Crawford Allan has five more rounds of S[FL fixtures to appoint officials for, since announcing his decision to search for fresh opportunities he has appointed Don Robertson, John Beaton and McLean to take charge of Celtic matches.

Michael Nicholson hasn’t commented on referees since he was cracking jokes at the Celtic AGM in November.
