Pat Nevin is touting Brendan Rodgers to take over from Mauricio Pochettino as manager of Chelsea.
Throughout most of last season the former Motherwell CEO was touting Ange Postecoglou for every EPL vacancy despite Nevin claiming to be a huge Celtic fan despite Hibs being the current love of his life.
Nevin spent five years in the mid-eighties playing for Chelsea and has had a variety of media roles with the London clubs.
Back in the eighties the former Scotland winger styled himself as a left wing revolutionary, these days he appears as a pundit for BBC Five Live with his latest media offering coming to promote the gambling website Prime Slots.
Picking up on that Football Scotland reports Nevin saying:
Brendan does love Celtic, they are his team and he has had great success there. He was not welcomed back there fabulously because when he left to go to Leicester, they felt he left the club in the lurch.
So he’s been begrudgingly accepted back by quite a large group. I don’t think Brendan would walk out easily, if any old Premier League club came calling I don’t think he would walk out.
However, this is Chelsea and there may not be a better job for him out there. In his mind, there is probably not a bigger job out there for him. I would imagine that when he started his coaching career at Chelsea, and he closed his eyes and imagined the future, reaching the top job at Stamford Bridge would be the pinnacle of his career.
I actually feel sorry for Brendan, even though he won’t get much sympathy, trust me, but that is a hell of a tough call if it comes in. Turning down Premier League Chelsea, and to work with an incredible group of young players.
A conversation with Pochettino, Graham Potter or Thomas Tuchel would put Rodgers right about the reality of managing Chelsea.
If you are in need of a massive pay off after a year or less in the job then Chelsea is the place to be, if you want to develop your career and build a team then it is a job to be avoided.
After being touted as a future England manager Potter hasn’t worked since his his 31 match reign at Chelsea came to an abrupt halt last April with Frank Lampard stepping in as caretaker.
Roberto De Zerbi is the current bookies favourite for the Chelsea job with only Nevin pushing the case for Rodgers to manage his favourite English side.
I’m beginning to think The Donald is working out of the daily sevco office,with all of the FAKE NEWS stories coming out of there.
