William Hill are set to become the new sponsors of the SPFL according to a report in The Sun.

Earlier this season Cinch announced that they were opting out of their five year sponsorship deal that had been brokered and celebrated by Neil Doncaster.

Finding sponsors for the Scottish game has been a recurring problem for the SFA and SPFL but gambling companies have been regular partners, back in 2016 the three main competitions were sponsored by Ladbrokes, William Hill and Betfred.

Premier Sports and Scottish Gas currently sponsor the two cup competitions, at 16.26 today The Sun reported:

BETTING giants William Hill have agreed a deal to become the SPFL’s new title sponsors.

SunSport understands the big name bookies will replace Cinch in a record agreement.

The car sales firm signed a five-year contract in 2021 which was worth around £1.6m per year.

But they opted to walk away at the end of this season – two years early – following a controversial legal dispute which saw Rangers refuse to display their branding.

That put SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster under major pressure to land a lucrative replacement but he revealed at the weekend he was close to signing off a deal.

Celtic currently have Dafabet as their shirt sponsor but after the problems with Cinch the SPFL will have checked with their member clubs before concluding the deal with William Hill.

The new deal will almost certainly see the blue and white Hills logo appear on all shirt sleeves with accompanying pitchside and backing board logos giving the sponsor significant exposure.

With Sky pulling in audiences of over one million for the Glasgow Derby that fixture with pitchside advertising and both clubs wearing the logo will provide the new sponsor with incredible value- four times a season.

For fcuks sake is there not enough ‘Williams’ operating at the ‘governance’ level of Scottish Football without another bloody one…

And is there not enough Hill Billy’s as well in governance and officialdom on the field of play as well !

Now resort to Gambling companies. The very gutter for sports promotion, in my opinion.
How many additional lives will end in disaster because of gambling advertising on Scottish Football shirts?!
At least with cinch it was buying cars, something tangible which was being promoted.
But with gambling, the innocence of many will be taken by the further promotion of (in my opinion) a sordid industry!
cinch pulled out early after bad publicity following a cantankerous legal dispute wih a SPFL member Club.
    Guess who?
I guess there are plenty of sponsors in waiting for the SPFL, but few are willing to invest sufficiently.
Very sad then that we lost a very positive deal through an argument and have resorted to take gambling addicts cash!

Would that not be a problem for Celtic and their sponsors?

    • The Joker says:

Never mind Celtic sevco have put the blockers on it already as they have 32Red and they are refusing to have William Hill clashing with their own sponsors.

  • The Joker says:

Sevco will not display the William Hill betting logo sponsorship details on interviews due to the arrangements they have with their own sponsors 32Red.
