Celtic moved to a point of clinching the 2023/24 SPFL title with a 2-1 victory in today’s Glasgow Derby.

Despite a sometimes turbulent campaign Brendan Rodgers’ side are six points clear with two matches left to play with a useful plus seven goal difference advantage.

No one was declaring the battle as over but the scenes of relief and delight at the final whistle told a story while the visitors trudged off looking dejected.

Celtic dominated for 80% of the match but despite having a one man advantage they were hanging on through seven minutes of stoppage time before they heard the sound of Willie Collum’s final whistle.

A well constructed and executed 35th minute goal from Matt O’Riley was followed by a bizarre own goal from John Lundstram, as the fans settled for a goal feast Cyriel Dessers upset the plan by almost immediately pulling a goal back.

That goal seemed to get the better of John Lundstram who was soon sent off for a brutal foul on Alistair Johnston to return the initiative to the home side.

O’Riley missed a 53rd minute penalty after a lengthy VAR review, the third goal proved elusive but despite some pressure the visitors failed to test Joe Hart as the final whistle was reached without mishap.

Kilmarnock on Wednesday could host the title party, unless Dundee take something from Ibrox the previous night to complete the misery for Phil Clement and his squad.
