After a storied career at the most glamorous locations in European football it seems that Guillem Balague has been smitten by his Glasgow experience.

Being the London based Spanish football expert for Sky Sports during the first two decades of this century provided him with the ideal career platform.

Spain shook off their reputation as perennial fall guys to dominate international football, Pep, Messi and Ronaldo raised the bar in Spanish football with imports transforming the game in England and elsewhere.

Increasing commercialisation does have drawbacks, football tourism highlighted by half-n-half scarves is a curse for most diehards but hard to avoid as television takes the game worldwide.

Scotland does host a fairly unique fixture, one that attracts the curious onlooker with Henry Winter and Balague among the onlookers for Saturday’s drama.

Balague was strictly off duty, taking in the fan experience away from the press box and keen to join in the cultural experiences of the city. It seems to have made a favourable impact.
