Martin Dubravka made the most of his appearance for Slovakia at the European Championships with speculation rife that he is on his way out of Newcastle United.
A 1-0 win over Belgium put the keeper in the shop window with one more point from their two remaining matches likely to extend his stay in Germany into the knock-out stage of the competition.
The 35-year-old finished last season as first choice at St James’ Park but with Nick Pope returning from injury and Dubravka in the final year of his contract it seems likely that the keeper will soon be moving on.
With Celtic in the market for a goalkeeper it is easy to link the Slovakian with a move to the SPFL champions, his situation has parallels to the one that Joe Hart was in three years ago.
Scottish publications are under pressure to link Celtic with interest in various goalkeepers, interestingly the Newcastle based Chronicle has named the hoops as a likely destination for the Slovakian ‘keeper.
There is interest aplenty in Dubravka’s services next season, with Celtic leading the chase as they look for a Joe Hart replacement. Saudi clubs and some European outfits are also keen on the Magpies stopper.
A move north of the border feels as though it would suit all parties. Dubravka would get the chance to earn regular minutes, challenge for a title and play in Europe. Celtic would get an experienced Premier League stopper who has played plenty of top flight clashes in recent months – and they wouldn’t have to break the bank in doing so.
Chris Sutton, Celtic hero turned outspoken pundit, is one of many backing the move to become a reality.
“At 35-years-old he probably has one more big move in him. He’s played a lot of games for Newcastle in the last year but isn’t going to be first choice,” he told the Daily Record.
With nothing remotely official coming out of Celtic it looks like the guessing game will continue with the hoops first pre-season match coming on July 5 away to Ayr United.

It remains unclear as to whether we’re in the market for 1 or 2 keepers this summer?
Personal preference would be for the 2, and both having to prove there worth for earning the no1 Jersey, and the decent enough no2 could be used in the 2 Scottish cups imo?
With putting such a potential offer in place, should mean our overall goalkeeper set up, could have a better look than the previous few seasons imo?
Hart was fantastic and done so well for ourselves, but we left ourselves wide open if Hart received a long term injury or serious loss of form?
Still think that we need to be better prepared for next season, especially as I wouldn’t class Bain as a decent no2 keeper imo?
Maybe Gordon could’ve saved a couple of those goals Gunn failed to stop?
It might be obvious, but you need your keeper to make saves!
A mistake I thinks, to leave Gordon out of that squad!
