Chris Sutton in downbeat Celtic striker warning

Chris Sutton fears that Adam Idah could be slipping out of Celtic’s price range.

At the start of May he was an emerging striker, promising but with rough edges that had impressed but not really delivered on the biggest stages.

Going into the close season he has a Scottish Cup winner on his CV and a goal against a country about to play at the European Championships.

A change of management at Norwich City further complicates the picture with Celtic supporters yearning to see more of Idah and how he develops under the coaching of Brendan Rodgers.

The price tag for all that is rising while the timeline is pushed into the distance due to issues at Norwich and how Idah fits in under a new regime.

Discussing Celtic’s options in the Daily Record with reference to signing Odsonne Edouard in 2018 for £9m, Sutton explains:

Adam Idah fits that bill, of course, but his stock has risen since his loan move and his thumping header for the Republic of Ireland in their friendly win against Hungary the other day didn’t help much either. New Norwich City manager Johannes Hoff Thorup wants to check him out in pre-season and even if he doesn’t fancy the striker, he’s not going to be allowed to leave on the cheap no matter how much he wants to come back to Celtic.

With no early resolution expected it will be telling if Celtic look for alternative strikers or hold out for a deal with Idah.

Can’t afford to be waiting until August while new Norwich management hmms and hawws, and that’s before the negotiating even starts.A new striker will need to be bedded in for champions league,so as much as it pains me ,I agree with Chris on this one.Move on .

If Idah really wants to rejoin ourselves then fail to see how Norwich can really stand in his way?
Can’t see a new manager at Norwich been to interested in trying to convince idah to stay, especially if he has no interest in doing so?
Managers don’t tend to waste there time nowadays on keeping unhappy players around a club, especially as no-one starts to benefit from such an approach?
Of course Norwich can act the bollocks upon a fee involved, but we still remain a club that won’t be held to ransom either over a potential deal?
Norwich have nothing to offer idah compared to ourselves, regardless of what a new manager will say to the Norwich galleries, which he would be expected to say also?
Should be a fairly straightforward deal for idah to pursue if he really wants to imo, with just a fee to be agreed upon as wage demands shouldn’t be a massive issue either to overcome?
Would be very surprised if idah was to get a better offer than ourselves has for himself at this stage within his career, but not usually as straightforward for ourselves especially when one lawwell remains within the building with ourselves?

If Celtic want Idah, they would surely have to put up an early bid, since they are in the know and they would have to make an offer which reflects their desire to land the player.
But that is not the way celtic operate!
They expect others to come to them: It’s a sort of Superiority Complex, if you like!
His current transfer market value has risen to £3 million after a very successful half season on loan at Celtic.
The guy has a great international pedigree and he has shown he can handle the expectations placed on him!
What are you waiting for Mr. Lawwell!?
