Celtic are reported to be keen on signing central defender Flavius Daniliuc from Italian side Salernitana.
The Sun has picked up on a report from Sky Sports Germany as Celtic fans look for their first signing of the summer.
Daniliuc spent last season on loan at RB Salzburg in Austria and is expected to be on the move this summer after his parent club were relegated from Serie A.
Celtic certainly have an increased presence in Austria with a link up to second division side Admira Wacker with Nicolas Kuhn signed from Rapid Vienna in January. Kuhn was a team-mate of Daniliuc for three years at the Bayern Munich Academy.
Two years ago Daniliuc moved from Nice to Salernitana for a fee of £5m, last night The Sun reported:
Sky Sports Germany report that Daniliuc could become a team-mate of the winger once again, with Celtic in the race to land him this summer.
The 23-year-old is contracted with Italian outfit Salernitana following his switch from France in 2022 and still has two years left on his four-year deal.
Salzburg signed him on loan in January and have first dibs to sign him permanently ahead of next season after including an option to purchase in their negotiations with the then Serie A club.
And it’s likely he will part ways with Salerno-based side this summer after they failed to avoid relegation from the top flight last season.
It’s likely the defender will want to play in a first division next season and the lure of European football will probably tempt him on a permanent move back to his homeland.
However, Celtic could rival the Austrian club’s interest as they will also provide the chance for him to play in the new-look Campions League campaign next season.
Celtic are expected to be in the market for a central defender this summer but like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, Gus Lagerbielke and Stephen Welsh he is right-footed.
Liam Scales is the only natural left sided central defender at Celtic, Carl Starfelt played on the left of Carter-Vickers for two years despite being right-footed but ideally it would be a left-sided player in that position.

Nit taking much notice on transfer the now in Europe with nation cup coming up top players involved except O’Leary in tournament so nothing will get done till tournament over
Even though this lad’s CV might sound impressive enough, I would still question as to why his parent club was prepared to loan him out, while in potential relegation trouble?
Is he really that good for the Italian club to be prepared to make such a decision?
Doesn’t really add up right for my liking and wouldn’t be looking to much into it at present imo?
Even ourselves wouldn’t allow the largerman to be loaned out, and this with him not being in the plans of Rodgers, but weren’t prepared to risk being short of cover in the position either?
As much as I would say and agree that we need to be in the market still for another left sided CB, still wouldn’t say that this particular player is that high upon our shopping list imo?
