Celtic are reported to have held talks over signing Ajay Matthews from Middlesbrough.

The 18-year-old striker has a year left on his contract, if he is allowed to run down his deal he could leave next summer for a token Development fee.

Celtic are certainly in the market for a new striker but it is too much to expect that someone who was playing in the u-18 EPL last season could be challenging and providing cover for Kyogo Furuhashi.

Matthews has played in three friendlies for the England u-18 side.

The Secret Scout has over 200,000 followers on Twitter.

In recent seasons Celtic have signed Joey Dawson and Jonny Kenny as emerging strikers but there hasn’t been much sign of development towards first team football.

Dawson did make one substitute appearance in December 2021 but failed to build on that while Kenny is on his second loan spell at Shamrock Rovers following a brief stint at Queens Park.

Next season Celtic can offer the combination of playing in the Lowland League and UEFA Youth League to Matthews with Darren O’Dea the newly created Professional Pathway Manager.

Sounds like a Cock and Bull story being given a platform on Twitter.
Only can it be given credence by Celtic’s Cock-Eyed signing strategy and their communication of that to the fans!

Could be looked upon as a replacement for Vata within our squad?
Think Rodgers will be forming his 25man squad with 1st team ready players next season, especially with the increasing number of matches for our players?
So outside of the 25man, then prospect players from the academy, can make up squad numbers if required imo?
The academy prospect players like Kelly and vata, were boarding on the 1st team squad last season, and can’t see Rodgers changing that approach imo?
It doesn’t take too many injuries, to get prospect academy players involved within a 20man SPFL match day squad either?
Thinking that the academy route is going to overtake this policy of stock piling players that was in operation last season imo?

That’s sevco type signings keep away from this nickel&dime stuff.

  • The Joker says:

Once again Brendan getting the PISS took out of him, penny pinching again.
It’s as if they are looking to match sevco in the transfer market, not wanting to spend decent cash on a player.

loads of money, celtic board at it again, hoodwicking their support into fleecing them of their hard earned cash so they can hoard the money. all that champions legue cash going straight into the bank balance, while the board sit tight to see if they can milk athletcio madrid for £35 million for matt oreilly which will be used for this years transfer budget.
