Mike Mulraney was almost in fully Ally MacLeod mode as he spoke to Sky Sports ahead of Scotland’s European Championships defeat to Hungary.

The Alloa chief recently got his SFA President’s salary increased by 100% to £60,000 on top of his gold ticket to UEFA and FIFA events plus very generous expenses.

Life isn’t too bad for the man that can’t get 1,000 fans through the gates to watch football at the Indodrill in the third tier of Scottish football.

Rather than talk about the players, not one was mentioned in a five minute interview, Mulraney drooled over the wonders of the Tartan Army.

Scotland have ended the season with one win in 13 matches ahead of a Nations League group that contains Portugal, Poland and Croatia.

1 minute:

I think that we have a real chance. Hungary are a really good team, we know that but if Scotland play well I really believe that we can beat anyone.

1 minute 50 seconds:

I was involved when we selected Steve, we believe that we got the right chap and it has proven beyond all doubt that we’ve got the right chap for the job.

Qualifying can’t be enough for Scotland.

3 minutes 40 seconds:

It doesn’t get any better, a truly exciting time and part of that success brings opportunity.

4 minutes 30:

It is as I said, if we turn up, if we play our best football we are capable of winning, there is no doubt about that, no doubt whatsoever.

While the Tartan Army head home Mulraney and the rest of the SFA blazers will hang around for some UEFA Committee meetings and enjoy a further fortnight of the best in German hospitality.

Alloa start their League Cup campaign on July 13 a home to Inverness Caley Thistle if the Highland side are still in business.

The Sky Sports interview was arranged through Communications guru Darryl Broadfoot.

That was so typical of Scotland last night ,I can go back to 1974 ,we never lost a game but came home on goal difference,1978 debacle ,scudded by Peru could only draw with Iran minnows, beat Holland home on goal difference,1982 conceded twice to new Zealand home again,it goes on and on.that barmy tartan army going on about parties, best to win a game first and as for the dirge that is flower of Scotland that is just cringe worthy,we laugh at sevco going on about the battle of the boyne 400 years ago but the tartan army sing about a battle 11 or 12 hundred years ago.same auld scoatland.

Mulraney can say anything he wants to. It is because his position is secure at SFA!
