Kris Boyd has warned Ibrox fans not to assume that James Tavernier and Connor Goldson are on their way out of their club.
Over the last two months the Daily Record has been leading a campaign hoping to reunite the defensive duo with Steven Gerrard at Saudi side Al Ettifaq.
Unfortunately there seems virtually no interest at the Saudi end of this ‘deal’ other than reporting back on the claims from the Record.
Tavpen moved to Ibrox in the summer of 2015 with Goldson joining him three years later, during their years of failure there hasn’t been a credible source of interest in either player.
Recently Giovanni van Bronckhorst was linked with a swoop for Tavernier but that seems based on hope rather than anything of substance, the new Beskitas boss was also linked with a move for Tom Lawrence.
Towards the end of last season Phil Clement spoke of a squad coming to the end of their cycle but other than players out of contract no-one has left Ibrox.
Spelling out some unwelcome FACTS! Boyd told Sky Sports News:
Clement will obviously want to bring in his own players. It’s more difficult with the players under contract trying to move them out.
The ones he’s brought in in the past have done reasonably well but you have to start winning things on a regular basis.
There have been rumours Connor Goldson and James Tavernier will move on. They’re under contract. It’s not going to be easy to force them out. They need someone to come along and take them off your hands, if that’s the case.
But a continuous turnover of 10, 12 players every summer is no good. Rangers need to get stability.
Gerrard could have signed Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Kemar Roofe or Ryan Jack without needing to pay out a fee but showed no interest in that job-lot.
Tavernier will be 33 in October with Goldson, 32 in October, currently out injured. Both stars have contracts running until June 2026 with those deals negotiated soon after losing the Europa League to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Gerrard has taken Andy Firth with him to become assistant goalkeeping coach at Al Ettifaq, he also took the former Tranmere reserve to Ibrox where he played 15 minutes of first team football.

sevco know’s the knuckle draggers ain’t too enamoured about the terrible two at the moment and they’v not been for some time now , they’d love to have them off the wage bill so we can expect to see them briefing against mutt and jeff as soon as it’s become clear that slippy didn’t take the bait , leave it to the record and the knuckleheads will run em outta town !!
Naebdys gonny buy these 2 DUDS! Talk on Fester Fester of how they’ll accept £10M LOL!! Personally I’d give them baith a Testimonial, making sure of crse tae STIFF the Knuckodraggaz 50 bucks a ticket per DUD WHAHAHAHAHA!!
Tavpen and goldspin , sounds like their stuck with the duds on high wages for the foreseeable until some club more stupid than sevco comes in with a death wish to take them , as likely as ibrokes being ready for the start of the season, HA !
This is a story heat is going to grow arms and legs as time goes on,and all brought on by the klub itself.
They sat on this for months if not years thinking or hoping it would go away,
They are now looking for favours from every SPFL club and the European football bigwigs to dig them out this hole they find themselves in.
Dundee should the first team in-line to knock back any the shite the klan klub put out there regarding the begging bowl, just remember the stink and chaos sevco caused Dundee with support from their friends in the media.
But here we are 2 to 3 months later sevco find themselves in a MASSIVE predicament needing bailed out again playing the sympathy card and everyone has jump to their tune.
