Celtic are reported to have had a 9m euros offer for Dominik Livakovic accepted by Fenerbahce.

The hoops have been linked with more than a dozen goalkeepers since Joe Hart returned a month ago but a report from Turkey seems very definite with their facts.

Livakovic was linked with Celtic a year ago after an outstanding World Cup for Croatia but it seems that the goalkeeping position was put on the back burner with Hart having a year to run on his contract.

There was heartbreak for Livakovic last night when a stoppage time goal for Italy left Croatia on two points and staring an early exit from the European Championships but it seems that his club situation could be about to change.

Turkish publisher Photomac reports:

There will be a change in Fenerbahçe ‘s goal this year as well, just like last year. The yellow-dark blue team, who sent Altay Bay?nd?r and added Dominik Livakovic to their squad at the beginning of last season , will now part ways with the Croatian goalkeeper. Livakovic, who wanted to leave the team after what happened after the Trabzonspor match, but was persuaded by force , says goodbye to the team after EURO 2024 .

Scottish team Celtic knocked on Fenerbahçe’s door for the experienced goalkeeper with a transfer fee of 9 million euros. After Liva also wanted to leave, this offer was accepted. An official announcement will be made shortly. Fenerbahçe will replace Liva with Perin from Juventus . Fenerbahçe offered the Italian glove a 3-year contract for 3 million euros. An agreement was reached in principle.

If the report is correct it would be a real statement of intent by Celtic to sign a known quantity goalkeeper with strong international experience.

At the World Cup Finals in Qatar Livakovic was a team-mate of Josip Juranovic, while the defender was preparing to leave Celtic it is likely that he would have been able to answer some questions about the club from his international team-mate.

Croatia’s Euros fate could be sealed by tonight, if they exit the competition Livakovic will enjoy a short holiday but should be in Scotland in time to get some training sessions in ahead of the pre-season trip to the USA where Celtic face DC United, Chelsea and Manchester City.

I hope that this report is true, Joe, but if we can’t afford Paulo Bernardo’s wages, then I wonder about the wages of an experienced international goalkeeper who has played in the World Cup semi final 2022. I hope that I’m wrong, and it’s a done deal.

£7 million on a goalkeeper we ain’t spending that,if we are then it means we are taking the transfer window more seriously this time.

Now how does sevco match that, remember for our every fiver theirs will be a tenner.

I’ll believe it when I see it which shouldn’t be long now that Croatia has joined us in the Euro dustbin.

  • the maister says:

Yes, so the guy was a second choice goalie to Big Joe. But now that Joe is gone, two years later, we go back for this guy?
Doesn’t make good business sense that!

Could this be a long-awaited statement of intent from ‘the suits’? Is Brendan laying down the law? I sure hope so and it’s the beginning of a new era for Celtic FC.
I’m just hoping it’s true, and if so, a great big thanks to you, Joe, for keeping us informed.
Actually, thanks for everything you do in any case 🙂
And, with even more uncertainty South of the river, just let them slither off and die……. Byeeee, won’t be missed!

Seems the report about Livokovic joining Celtic is a complete fabrication. We should have known better. Celtic spending £7.6m on a goalkeeper? It was obviously a load of old tosh. They’ll be eyeing up some pub team goalkeeper and grab him just as the transfer window is about to close. Is that not what the Celtic Board usually does?
