Barry Ferguson has praised the Ibrox board for being honest and open about their stadium closure!
He won’t find many bears agreeing with that view but not many were treated to an all expenses paid jolly to Marbella including special bonding sessions.
After sitting on the news for three weeks the club made a 115 word statement on June 20 that Ibrox wouldn’t be ready for the start of the new season.
A dodgy supplier has been blamed for the problem, no timeline has been given for when construction work will be completed while fans debate the real reasons for the problem including Asbestos related issues.
Yesterday the SPFL announced their new season fixtures with no word on where Phil Clement’s side will be playing their home matches.
It seems to a complete shambles but Ferguson and the Daily Record can always be relied upon to apply soothing spin to bad news from Ibrox.
This morning Ferguson explains:
There’s a pre-season friendly against Manchester United at Murrayfield that will allow everyone to get used to the home of Scottish Rugby should that be the chosen venue.
I played there once, in a bounce game, and to be honest I was blown away by the size of the place. If there’s over 65,000 Rangers fans in there it would create some atmosphere.
That’s the positives they can take. What I like is that the club have been open and honest about the entire situation. They have come straight out and laid the full facts out to the supporters.
They could have strung people along and said it might be ready. But all that would have done is create confusion. Now everyone knows what’s happening.
Ferguson believes that Ibrox will only be closed for August which will also include at least one Champions League qualifier.
No comment was given on the exciting addition of Liam Kelly to Phil Clement’s star studded squad.

Can you still book a stadium tour? Asking for a friend.
Yeah, but you need to buy a Rangers branded Castore hard hat, hi-vis jacket and steel toe cap boots from the club shop. Bargain at just £1,690, but may not last more than one wash (not that that will ever be a problem for most visitors). Entry is free if you can bring a steel girder. Or you can bring a HazMat suit, some gloves and a Henry Hoover and are happy to spend half an hour on your tour clearing up some material that is categorically NOT asbestos (honest!).
