The Sunday Mail has kicked off the close season in outstanding form- revealing comforting news for their declining army of readers.
While most loyal bears wouldn’t recognise Jefte if he walked down Buchanan Street in full Castore kit last week the Mail revealed that the unknown Brazilian will soon be a transfer target of Real Madrid.
Former Ibrox flop Dalcio broke the news about his former APOEL team-mate, it was too good for the Mail to resist as they splashed with it a week after Celtic had won the Scottish Cup.
Fabio Silva’s theatrics in the second half of last season have earned him a notable passage in The Banter Years, his diving hit a peak at Hampden in the Scottish Cup semi-final when he decided to hit the deck rather than slide home a six yard tap-in.
The former Porto star was constantly referenced as a £35m striker when he arrived on loan from Wolves but it was quickly obvious that he’d be returned to sender when the season ended.
Most bears would rather have seen Lawrence Shankland signed in January but there is some consolation from the Sunday Mail with the news from Silva’s Dad that his pride and joy snubbed Celtic to live the dream of playing alongside John Lundstram, James Tavernier and Borna Barisic.
In an exclusive interview with MailSport, Jorge said: “At the beginning, Fabio had the opportunity to choose other clubs, even in Scotland. Could he have gone to Celtic? Yes, he could have gone there.
“Many people told him to go there because the way they play is maybe closer to Fabio’s abilities. But he chose Rangers.
“People spoke to us about his religion because he’s a Catholic but Fabio doesn’t show that to everyone. Even so, he told me as his father that he just wanted to play for Rangers.
(Fabio’s arms are covered in tattoos of saints and rosary beads)
“He loved the club and the fans. He just doesn’t understand that after one game (the Old Firm derby), everyone changed and went against the boy. It was a good time for him at Rangers.”
Silva was treated as a hero after diving to win a penalty, without the intervention of John Beaton and Nick Walsh Celtic were cruising to victory with the loyal bears already turning on their heroes.
It is some stretch to claim that a 21-year-old Portuguese striker opted to snub Celtic to chase the dream of playing for the Tribute Act formed by Charles Green in 2012.
Reading those words however should help numb the pain for Mail/Record readers in the wake of Celtic winning their 118th trophy 15 days ago at Hampden.
“Could he have gone to Celtic? Yes, he could have gone there.”
Or to put it another way, did his club and his agent contact all and sundry to try to punt him out on loan somewhere?
Which in the sports desk of the Daily Retard becomes “Celtic Snubbed”……
Total flop heralded by the press as a game changer who’ll help them win the treble
Now they’re getting his dad to give them quotes to bring Celtic into it
Laughable but predictable
The lad is a lot more honest than his daddy about his time at Liebrox for sure…
Well according to what I’ve looked at on Swallow Swallow anyway –
And it in itself is 100% more truthful than The Daily Record (which certainly wouldn’t be hard)…
Daddy Silva is probably trying to curry favour with The Sevco Huns in case they come after his boy –
That is if he even said it at all as after all it’s The Sunday Mail that you’re reporting that said it !
Never mind the Silva it’s all about the Gold and finishing first.
Two goals in thirteen Premiership appearances, his market value has dropped, for the first time in three years, after six months at the dead Club!
He wasted a lot, of what is a very short career, producing diving tricks for the Loyal Bears!
Two goals in thirteen games. But a great diver!
