Besiktas have joined the mythical race to sign James Tavernier.
In nine years at Ibrox there has barely been a sniff of interest in the former Wigan utility man but now after a horrendous last few months the Daily Record are portraying Tav as the most wanted right-back in Europe.
For over a month the Glasgow based publisher has been trying to hype up interest from Al Ettifaq who are managed by Steven Gerrard.
Now it is being claimed that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has put Tavpen at the top of his wanted list after taking charge of Besiktas, the club that he signed Ridvan Yilmaz from in a bizarre £5m deal in August 2022.
In trademark fashion the Record reports:
James Tavernier is wanted by a SECOND former Rangers gaffer with Giovanni van Bronckhorst wanting a reunion at Besiktas, according to a report.
The Ibrox skipper is said to be still be wanted by Steven Gerrard in the Saudi Pro League alongside Connor Goldson but the Liverpool hero could now face competition to land the full-back.
Record Sport exclusively revealed that the right-back and his centre-back colleague are on Al-Ettifaq’s shopping list this summer. But now the efforts to land Tav could be jeopardised with Turkish publication Sozcu stating Gio’s first demands in his new role.
After his announcement as the new Besiktas manager, all eyes turned to the transfer front with the publication stating right-sided players are high on the agenda. They say that the Dutch coach has ‘requested’ the management go out and get Steven Berghuis from Ajax alongside Tavernier in a double swoop.
Tavernier, 32, still has two years to run on his current terms in Glasgow and he showed his importance to the Light Blues once again last season with 24 goals and 12 assists across 58 appearances in all competitions. He boasts a staggering 125 goals and 129 assists from right-back in his Rangers career to date.
With Trabzonspor expected to sign John Lundstram and Borna Barisic it seems that Turkish football clubs haven’t learned anything from Ryan Kent’s season at Fenerbache.
No Turkish club has shown interest in signing Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Jack.
Touted about all over the place, the guy cannot defend a bottler as well.
:groan:
The DR is eagerly setting up a wholly fictitious, “tussle between Gerrard and GvB”,
over TavPen ?
But the most significant point from the article is:
“Tavernier, 32, still has two years to run on his current terms in Glasgow…”
TavPen ain’t going anywhere.
Huns defence nxt yr.. Kelly (cost her haw) TavPen, Goldhun (NAEBDY wants any ae them) Turkish Midget & Soapy Soutar (NAEBDY wants him either) They’re SHITE & will be NAEWHERE near us nxt Season!
That’s hee haw lol!
Why try to bum up the price when no-one’s interested ?
Make the gubbible happy n hopefully, that’s why
So their No-Wit dwindling Sevco Hun readership will buy their lies John S…
And the ‘odd’ Celtic supporting No-Wits that buy it as well –
Though hopefully there won’t be many of a Celtic persuasion left that are mental enough to support the filthy anti Celtic rag of evil !
The bigger the lie and the more times you tell it, the more chance someone will believe it – I think someone said!
As an aside. What about Tanguy Ndombele, just freed by Ange? Looks a great player on YouTube. Maybe resurrect his career.
while averaging a penalty per game for sevco he’ll not have that luxury elsewhere or agents in black like cheaton and welsk to provide for him it’s leaner times ahead , i’m sure he’s not to pleased that the two bob outfit are trying to flog him off the books even as good as they try to portray him !!! toodles tavpen !!!
Fuck sake the only place Tavpen has not been touted for selling himself is Blytheswood Square as he has been hoaring it everywhere else.
Just leave the Fairy Stories to the Nordics!
How is his goal tally “staggering”? If I was taking pens for a team that were awarded that many pens, even I’d have those kind of numbers.
