Brendan Rodgers delivered a low key transfer update after watching Celtic hammer Chelsea 4-1.
Celtic started the match with 10 outfield players that were at the club when Rodgers returned last June, in goals Kasper Schmeichel has taken over from Joe Hart.
Luis Palma came off the bench in 35 minutes for the injured Daizen Maeda and looks like the only player from seven summer signings a year ago likely to have a serious involvement in the campaign ahead.
Two months on from winning the Scottish Cup at Hampden there are no new outfield players for Rodgers to select from but with August approaching he is looking for that to change.
Asked about new signings the Daily Record reports the Irishman saying:
I hope so. You want to have them in as soon as you possibly can. Their current group is working very hard in their own right and we’ll improve the squad over the course of the window.
The ideal time to have made signings would have been before the USA trip, giving them 12 days and three matches to adapt to the demands of a new manager.
With no midweek fixtures during August Rodgers will have plenty of time on the training ground as fans look out for signs that the team has strengthened and improved over the summer months.
As ever…the timing is the problem..We do this almost every time..for no apparent reason. How long does it take to contact a Club…check players availability…ask the fee required…then make a decision..??…To me it’s not rocket science…Put up…or move on…Oh and its not because we’re skint…FFS Celtic…get the finger out.
I would add Kuhn to Palma as one who could make a difference from those signed last year ?
John, I agree. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kuhn turns out to be the better of the two either.
It’s because Lawwell wants to save on a few weeks wages paid to new players. Balance sheet first, football operations second or wherever they appear on his list.
If you can stick it to the manager and fans in the process all the better. Then they know who’s in charge. Right Peter?
Excellent and spot-on KC.
Bang on. Worse thing we ever did was allow that man back near the club. Surely there can’t still be fans out there that are daft enough to back this man. He’s been at it since o’niels last season. It’s the same as what the tories have done in all their time in power. Cut cut cut.
Could it be we’re waiting on EPL, team lists before making a move for someone.
Whilst BR rightly attracted some criticism during last season,
arguably, he over-performed to deliver a double
– and despite 2 shambolic transfer windows.
Yes, it’s only pre-season, but it looks like BR has developed the
team further and it looks an exciting start to the season.
The only element which is lagging – again – is the inadequate transfer business
activity. 2 or 3 quality signings could raise this team exponentially?
And the least the Board should have done is present a new signing
on Day 1 of the window opening.
Nothing changes. 🙁
There was much to be positive about wrt last night’s pre-season match but I wouldn’t go as far as to use “hammer” in my description. Yeah, we won it, in the end comfortably, but there were many anxious moments especially in the first 15 minutes. A classy goal from MOR helped us settle and improve and it was a decent watch and a very good work-out. For me we NEED to bring in a LCB urgently but unfortunately our recruitment team (Peter Lawwell Enterprises) hasn’t a fukkin clue what “urgently” means yet urgently accepts £££s when he gets the chance. Absolute fanny of a man!
I’ve had quite a few look-ins on a relatively new Celtic supporters site, Celtic365, and the content is very good but I don’t like – “I agree that my submitted data is being collected and stored. For further details on handling user data, see our Privacy Policy.” – so I won’t leave a comment on that site.
Can’t wait for the season to begin next Sunday but, if we don’t recruit some quality at LB, LCB and striker as a minimum, and that’s assuming MOR stays with us, then we’ll need to be truly revolting supporters and chase that scum outa the boardroom.
A bit like the new huns but in a very different context as they truly are revolting! 🙂
