Celtic have been included among five clubs linked with an interest in signing Tanner Tessmann.
The Venezia midfielder was expected to step up to joining Inter Milan but talks have stalled with Celtic and Brentford the unlikely non-Italian duo reported to be showing interest.
Remaining in Italy would seem the most natural option for a Serie B midfielder but as a 22-year-old American internationalist he’ll be aware of how joining Celtic has advanced the career of Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Italian transfer specialist Gianluca di Marzio reports:
Tanner Tessmann will not be a new Inter player . Negotiations between the two sides have in fact come to a halt as the Nerazzurri have not been able to reach an agreement with the player’s agents. Several teams are now on the trail of the Venezia midfielder.
With the agreement with Inter falling through, several teams are back in the race for the American midfielder born in 2001 .
In Italy the teams involved are Torino, Parma and Como , while abroad there are Celtic and Brentford .
Over the course of the last season, the Venezia midfielder made 37 appearances in Serie B, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists .
That news appears to come from the players agent, at this time of year they will be on overdrive to get their clients on the move.
Few options can be ruled out, with a year left on his Venezia contract a transfer this summer would be in the interests of all parties.
With just two full caps for the USA, both in friendly matches a move to Celtic and the possibility to play in eight Champions League matches will carry some appeal to Tessmann.
As a defensive midfielder the USA internationalist wouldn’t be a direct replacement for Matt O’Riley but with the former MK Dons man likely to be sold this summer additional midfielders are expected to be added to Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

At present I don’t see how another defensive midfielder fits into our squad, not unless Rodgers is looking to change shape from a 433 to a 4231 imo?
Rodgers tried the 4231 early last season and we looked awful, was just a reminder of the 10iar season?
So currently Calmac is more of a playmaker in the position with iwata as more of a defensive midfielder?
Lawal still learning his trade, but could be regarded as our 3rd option available in the position to ourselves also imo?
Even Kwon is another option also?
So if Rodgers intends to stick with the 433 its more of the attacking midfielders, I would have thought that we should be in the market for imo?
Hatate and Paulo capable of playing the roles, and question marks remains regarded Holm still?
Maybe this USA tour will give a better indication as to how Rodgers actually intends to set the midfield areas up for next season, as hardly anything is for definite at present?
Which in turn will determine which type of midfielders we might be intending to target as possible incoming players imo?
Johnno, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it as Lawwell will fight like fukk to ensure we don’t spend c7 mill euros on what he’ll see as an expensive luxury.
In Lawwell’s eyes it’s only HIM that’s worth spending huge amounts on expensive luxuries. Just think what that fukkin leech has cost us to date on luxuries, his shares, bonuses, and FAILED projects.
LAWWELL OUT!
There’s nothing of note on Transfermarkt except a price tag of around 7 mill. Euros.
He looks like a big, strong lad and, assuming he’s a decent player, could maybe add some steel in front of our defence? If Brendan thinks he’s right for us then I’d have to go along with that and Brendan seems to know how to get the best out of young players but we’ll just have to wait and see.
LAWWELL OUT!
If most of the teams park the bus why not play five up front?
CONGESTION, unless the ‘wingers’ go really wide to draw defenders out and can produce really good crosses and occasionally smash the ball low across the 6 yard line.
I think modern football is out of balance with the backs like Taylor and Scales doing all the work and bypassing the midfield who are supposed to be the creators. They then gets criticised for being out of position a bit like Tavernier.
The backs should pass to the midfield who are then expected to do something with it. If they can’t and proceed to pass among themselves endlessly then get shot and find some that can.
Here is my front line:
Palma-Daizen- Kyogo-Kuhn-Forrest who should be expected to run around creating space for the midfielders to use.
I don’t think Daizen and Kuhn are out and out wingers and should be used as the old style inside left and right.
Idah to replace Kuhn if we get him.
Been here before. Like last season!
Drag our heels until the season starts and buy what is required to buy in the January window.
But it is risky game, though!
