A year after arriving at Ibrox as the Dutch Laudrup, Sam Lammers has been dumped from Phil Clement’s first team squad.

Todd Cantwell, Nicky Raskin, Scott Wright and Rabbi Matondo are all part of the squad stepping up their pre-season preparations at a Dutch training camp but there is no place for last summer’s £3.5m signing from Atalanta.

Instead, two years on from being on the bench for Eintracht Frankfurt as they lifted the Europa League, Lammers is working with the B team, playing in a bounce game against Hamilton Accies.

It is quite a fall from grace for the 27-year-old who was sent out on loan to Utrecht in January in one of Clement’s first big decisions, his replacement was Fabio Silva.

With three years left on his Ibrox contract Lammers won’t be forced into a move elsewhere and a massive pay cut.

Utrecht made it clear that Lammers was way outside their salary scale, yesterday FC Twente, preparing for Champions League qualifiers came to the same conclusion.

Starring in the Ibrox B team in pre-season friendlies isn’t quite the shop window but by October Lammers should get the chance to impress the new manager alongside Ianis Hagi and the usual suspects.

Nailing your colours to the mast with a ‘gone before the clocks change’ prediction for Thin Diesel then?! I said that last season about Billy Bealeshit when we won at iBrox in September and not only was I right but then he got the Sunderland job and was sacked from that before the clocks changed back again!!
