Clement’s sharp u-turn as he pleads for Cantwell return

Five days after returning to a media conference to reveal that Todd Cantwell wants to escape from Ibrox Phil Clement has opened the door for the return of the third rate Influencer.

Some weeks ago Cantwell told his manager that he was looking for a new challenge but there has been a distinct lack of interest in the 26-year-old ManChild.

It is hard to imagine any manager wanting to disrupt dressing room harmony for someone who has achieved very little in the game while pretending that they are some sort of maverick superstar.

In January 2023 Micky Beale looked into the eyes of Cantwell and decided that he could see something that no other manager had noticed.

Under Clement the relationship has been tetchy at best, against Celtic in May in a vital SPFL match Cantwell remained an unused substitute as Ross McCausland, Scott Wright, Kemar Roofe and Nicky Raskin were sent on to salvage something.

Asked for an update on Cantwell the Belgian Beale told Sky Sports News:

I kept the door open all these weeks, because it’s already a while ago that he came the first time with that.

But as long as a player is here and we believe in his qualities, the door is always open. But of course, we need to focus on the guys who are totally with our minds in the club and to getting the results in the next couple of weeks. So we will see what happens.

On Thursday Clement has to name his squad for a Champions League Third Round qualifier, with a lack of new signings at the club there is every chance that TikTok could be back in the fold.
