The Daily Record has upped their game in an effort to unsettle Lawrence Shankland ahead of Saturday’s SPFL opener at Tynecastle.
After the pre-season from hell the last thing that the Glasgow based publisher wants to do is report on an opening day defeat from Hearts as they prepare for the away leg of a Champions League qualifier.
Last week the Brains Trust of Keith Jackson and Barry Ferguson kicked off the campaign to unsettle Shankland who can be bought for around £2.5m as he enters the final year of his contract.
In January Phil Clement committed £4.5m on Mohamed Diomande and brought in Fabio Silva on loan rather than make a move for the top scorer in the SPFL.
Late on Monday night Jackson returned to the story in the most unconvincing manner for the Record’s Army of Readers:
Rangers are locked in internal talks about a potential bid for Lawrence Shankland – as manager Philippe Clement threw an olive branch at wantaway Todd Cantwell.
Record Sport understands Clement held a series of discussions with the board with Shankland’s name at the top of the agenda. It’s believed the club’s hierarchy made it clear to the Belgian funds are in place to table an offer to the Tynecastle club for their star striker now that a £2.8million fee has been banked for Sam Lammers.
Anyone that thinks that Twente paid out a £2.8m fee for Lammers probably thinks that there are billionaires on the streets of Motherwell.
But, first, Clement must decide if he wants to sanction the move – or use what money is available on alternative targets. Clement previously expressed doubts over Shankland’s ability to spearhead a high pressing team from the front which is why he looked elsewhere during the January transfer window.
But he has warmed to the idea after watching his side go on to blow a possible treble with Cyriel Dessers in the No.9 role.
Clement has until 11pm on Thursday to name his squad for the Campions League Third Round qualifier which is likely to be against Dinamo Kiev.
Two further changes can be made up until 11pm the day before the match but unless Clement can get his hands on real money he’ll just have to settle for watching Shankland playing in maroon this Saturday.
As I said on a previous post Wankland will be missing on Saturday from the Hearts team, should this be the case then he will become a sevco player.
Now should he play for Hearts on Saturday and score the winning goal against sevco then they ain’t going to interested in signing the player that has potentially put sevco 3 points behind Celtic immediately, they ain’t going to be having that.
On SSB last night Rodger the Tadger Hannah was still all excited for sevco regardless of thr pre- season shitshow.
Apparently the fans should be full of enthusiasm for the start of the season and not be so negative,as the board and the manager know what they are doing.
Aye and the fans know what they are seeing and penny is finally ready to drop their team us fucked, but the the twobob nickel&dime journalists are to scared to call it out.
NEVER will the Mini Huns have the opportunity tae beat the FILTH than this Sat! Shd they LIE DOON again their Fans shd DEMAND Naebaws is KICKED squarely between the Diving wee Cunts legs!!
Anyone else out there that wouldn’t be surprised if Shankland picks up a wee knock in training, or some mystery minor injury, this week that keeps him out of this game?
If you have the idea that Naismith and his gang of non trier’s will be up for tossing theRangers into panic mode by beating them first up this weekend ,you have not been paying attention to recent events . The Hearts side will be set up to give every advantage to theRangers . Naismith is a bottler ,a coward and a charlatan . Let’s put it this way ? Would you buy a second hand car from him ? Me neither !
So Keith you are telling us that
Clemonte didn’t see Shankland as fitting in to the way he wants his side play ,but because Dessers is pish he is happy to bring Shankland in .
Great management from a REAL football manager.
“It is believed” – Nah it’s not – Na da, Na da… Not when it’s The Daily Record Pathological Lies as reported on here it’s not and never will be…
Sevco lurkers will of course swallow swallow every last word !
“It’s believed the club’s hierarchy made it clear to the Belgian funds are in place to table an offer to the Tynecastle club…”
Believe all one wants but it’s far from reality. Basically, a lie.
I’d tune in to the game myself. Just to see Shankers in a Jambo shirt!
