Celtic are bracing themselves for further bids from Atalanta to sign Matt O’Riley.

With the Europa League trophy tucked away and a place in the Champions League assured for next season the Serie A side are bound to be of interest to the midfielder.

Celtic are in no need of additional funds but if a bid comes in of around £25m it will be hard to hold on to O’Riley who has given two and a half seasons of exceptional service since his switch from MK Dons.

Sky Sports reported:

Celtic have rejected an initial bid from Atalanta for Matt O’Riley, with the Serie A club expected to make another offer.

The Hoops believe the influential midfielder should command a club-record transfer fee if they are to sell him this summer.

Winger Jota was sold to Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad for £25m last year, with Arsenal paying just under that for Kieran Tierney in 2019.

Celtic rejected a bid from Atletico Madrid in January, afterwards there was a slight dip in O’Riley’s high standards but he was soon back in top form, contributing greatly to the double success with pivotal goals at Ibrox and Celtic Park in the run in to the title.

With Celtic yet to strengthen their squad this summer, and already without Joe Hart, Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah, it wouldn’t be a good look to be selling O’Riley at this stage of the transfer window.

After captaining the side and scoring against Queens Park on Wednesday night the Danish internationalist is preparing for Celtic’s three match trip to the USA but with interest from Spain and Italy this year it will be a surprise if O’Riley is still at Celtic when the transfer window closes.

      Aye,no doubts there,Harold.
The joke is on us,the Celtic support who continue to fill the bank accounts of the parasites who are charged with running our great club.
Mibbe someone could do a bit of research and tell us the last season that Celtic PLC made a nett spend in transfer dealings instead of their usual ££most in profit.
Time for the fanbase to grow a backbone and start boycotting merchandise !

Why oh why are so many Celtic sites talking of selling MOR, FFS?
On KDS he’s almost gone and many of the eejits on there are agreeing with it?
Why TF SHOULD we sell MOR? He’s a great asset and Brendan said he wants us to improve. Well you don’t improve by selling your best players and we sure as fukk don’t need the money. If that fat bastard Chairman facilitates this he should be hunted straight out of CP, tbh he should be hunted out anyway. Fukkin hun-loving rat!
