The Daily Record is reporting that Ibrox is on course to open next month.

The Glasgow based publisher has a long and distinguished record of getting ‘Rangers’ related good news stories wrong from discovering billionaires in Motherwell to reporting on mega-bucks Saudi offers to sign James Tavernier.

Work started to add 600 seats to the Copland Road Stand on May 14 but on June 20 the club admitted that their stadium wouldn’t be ready for the start of the new season.

Ross County will become the fourth club to visit Hampden in a fortnight but the Record is claiming that Saturday’s match will be the last home game staged at Hampden.

On Monday afternoon the Record joyously reported:

Rangers are on course to be back at Ibrox by the end of next month after taking delivery of the third and final shipment of steel in the timescale outlined by chairman John Bennett.

Bennett put a caveated timeline of after the September international break as a potential return point to Ibrox in an interview last month when he updated fans on the situation.

That was on the basis all three shipping consignments – delayed in coming from the Far East – arrived by the third week of August. And Record Sport can reveal that the last of the three loads have now arrived.

And that means, assuming all other construction work on the Copland Road stand goes to plan, Rangers could face Hibs in the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox on the last weekend of September, as had been Bennett’s “aspiration”. Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup quarter final draw means Rangers also have a home game prior to that against Dundee, although it remains to be seen if that’s a realistic target.

Phil Clement’s side are away to Celtic on September 1 then are away to Dundee United a fortnight later following the international break.

As usual on this story social media will provide far more accurate detail of what is going on compared to media messengers like the Record whose main task is to deliver upbeat content for their Army of elderly readers.
