A WhatsApp message among Ibrox fans is claiming that Oscar Cortes is facing a six month lay off after being injured against Hearts on Saturday.
For reasons unknown following a loan spell in which he started just four matches a loan with an obligation to buy the winger from Lens was struck during the summer with the fee believed to be around £4m.
Even on an initial loan it seemed a risk too high to commit to signing the Colombian winger who was used sparingly through pre-season.
Cortes ended last season with an injury at Rugby Park in February, on Saturday he was replaced a few minutes into the second half looking distressed.
It doesn’t take a top medic to work out that Cortes could be facing another long term injury.
Cortes fell to the ground at the end of the first half after getting nothing out of new Hearts defender Gerard Taylor.
It would have seemed a sensible precaution to substitute Cortes at half time but after discussions between the player and club doctor he decided to go back out for the second half.
After one attempt at a run it was all over for the £4m winger, he fell to the ground, pulled his shirt over his head and it was game over, another injury for Clement to deal with.
On Saturday Nicky Raskin and Dujon Sterling missed out due to injury, Danilo was on the substitute bench but chasing a goal Clement opted against sending the striker on for his first competitive appearance in nine months.
Connor Barron was the only new signing to start Saturday’s match, £1.75m Moroccan strike ace Hamza Igamane has yet to be involved in any match since his move from AS FAR Rabat.
The Ibrox boss will hold a media conference tonight ahead of the Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Kiev tomorrow.
Watched their game…Their defence is mince…Davies especially looks really dodgy. Best player on the park was Taylor the Jambo’s right back…Looked very good.If Sevco perform like that on Tuesday…they’ll get horsed.
Yeah, early days, but that Taylor guy looks like a real find for the Jambos. Good defensively and going forward and can really launch a shy. I don’t know if Rangers being so poor just made them look good, but the Diet Huns looked pretty decent and were unlucky not to win it.
Looks like we really dodged a bullet with Davies. Remember the crowing when they signed him, because we tried to sign him before he went to Liverpool? Between him and Kent, the Scousers must love it when they see a bid arrive from this mob!
They look awful, we looked pretty decent yesterday even allowing for Kilmarnock being crap. Let the good times roll……
Celtic were after Davies for around £1million, theRangers pay £4million including add ons, GREAT BUSINESS.
Cortes was on loan with a must buy clause, for any of theRangers fans that means you could not pull out of the deal, Duped or what.
Start of last season theRangers had a change in medical people to stop the injuries, medical people can help aid recovery not stop injuries, seems that they have changed medical people again this season ? I think it’s more how players are trained that creates injuries, so most likely that has to change.
Nice to have a good old laugh at theRangers, however our own house at Celtic must get its act together with signings, the team is currently weaker than last season.
Anything goes wrong with us and the fun stops, with chants of Lawell Lawell Get To F***.
Over to Celtic Board to get moving.
Am I right in thinking that they binned a lot of their medical and physiotherapy staff in a cost cutting exercise a while back and that this may be why they keep signing players that are injury prone or even injured on arrival?
Mind you, you even go back to the DeidCo days and they had form for signing players for millions that barely/never kicked a ball for them, due to always being injured. Daniel Prodan (RIP), Oleg Kuznetsov, Seb Rozental (ironically signed from Universidad Catolica!)
It wouldn’t surprise if the insurance Co. has to cover players wages.
Editor: It would astonish me if they paid insurance against injuries, premiums would be sky high for some of the crocks they have signed up.
Entertaining game at hertz, and yes, Taylor looks a player.
Interesting to see that Butland is making more uncharacteristic mistakes.
If he is sevco’s best / most valuable player, and his own game is being affected
by the low quality in the team around him,
then that’s more reason for him to try and escape?
sevco cash more than ever.
