Stephen McGowan has confirmed Brighton’s interest in signing Matt O’Riley from Celtic.
Sky Sports broke the news of interest in the midfielder, claiming that Celtic were in talks with the south coast club that has set the standard in player trading.
McGowan, of the Daily Mail has a long established record for being close to transfer matters at Celtic with a degree of inevitability that O’Riley will be on the move this summer.
Just before 5pm on Monday, McGowan reported:
Brighton have opened negotiations with Celtic over a fee for midfielder Matt O’Riley.
Atalanta and Southampton have already had bids rejected for the 23-year-old Denmark international this summer.
Now Premier League Brighton – currently in talks with Napoli over a move to Serie A for Billy Gilmour- are the latest club to approach Celtic over a price.
Although many fans are resigned to losing O’Riley the fees being quoted, generally around £15m seems to be way down on expectations.
Kieran Tierney and Jota have both been sold for £25m in the last few years with that figure the sort that supporters could cope with assuming that it is reinvested in the team.
So far in the transfer window Celtic appear to have broke even with Oh Hyeon-gyu and Sead Haksabanovic being sold for fees similar to the cost of bringing in Paulo Bernardo and Viljami Sinisalo.
Oreily is a better player than gilmore gallagher and rice he went arsenal for 100 mill he couldn’t lace matts boots same goes for the other 2 time celtic stopped getting short changed for players like van dyke frimpong etc who end up 80 mill players
I don’t want Matt to go…but surely the Club comes first ? A fee in excess of £20 million would keep the wolf away from the door and an added bonus would be driving the share price up…What’s not to like.??
Troll
Sarcastic TIM of long standing John A….Take a pill…Hail hail.
Ah the sarcasm dripping from you again Terence , brilliant mate.
And your point is Jim…??…Don’t remotely understand your comment…Hail hail.
Wolf away from the door?
There’s no fkn wolf anywhere near the door ffs. The board are loaded.
The only thing selling Oreilly will do is secure a bonus for the fkn tories in the soft seats.
Pay attention man!!
This is the last time I explain it…Ah wiz only kiddin’ jimmy b…Some gentle sarcasm…But ye know whit ??…Ah’ll no dae it again …Too much hassle and explainin’ tae dae…Hail hail.
Terence I knew you were being sarcastic mate ,that’s why I said the sarcasm is dripping out of your comments,I knew you were laying it on pretty thick,I think it was brilliant, love it mate.the first time I saw your comment earlier I thought you can’t be serious then I read through other replies before I knew you were just being sarcastic I replied.mm that sounds a bit muddled up but I know what I mean and I like your witty comments mate.
Thanks Jim…I genuinely thought you were pissed off with my post…So all’s well that ends well mate…Thanks again.
I know spellcheck did it, but I’m still sniggering at “Sean Haksabanovic” – a wee lad fae The Falls, so he is!
Editor: Now corrected, cheers!
No chance will lawwell and co spend the money we get for Matt
“Assuming that it is reinvested in the team” Aye, good luck with that!!
BR will be lucky if he gets a quarter of the money to spend that Matt may bring in.pete liewell will see to that.
The “elephant in the room” i.e. compensation for those abused by individuals working for the club must play a part in this. I know liability is a grey area but just say the 20 people involved are awarded £10 million each. That is more than Celtic have in the bank so what would happen then! £5 million each would wipe out most of credit and so on.
I don’t see anyone getting bought and I think O’Riley and Hatate are being “shopwindowed” with my previous point to the forefront of the boards thinking.
Not defending anyone but it is a reality that must be addressed by the board and not the fans. Perhaps the last few seasons profits have been ear marked for this possible situation.
I should have done this before I posted but I seem to have found out that there is a limit of £500,000 for each individual so perhaps “the elephant” has nothing to do with the poor performances during the transfer window.
The club should just pay the max and be done with it. They can afford it and I am sure would regain some sort of dignity.
As I understand it Charlie, the Club has claimed no liabilty in this action Your sentiments are to be applauded ‘though…Well said..Hail hail.
Celtic will pay what they have to pay – Will Sevco though have to pay for the sins of The deceased ‘Rangers’ ?
Na da, Na da on that one me thinks…
And as for Celtic ‘regaining dignity’ Charlie…
Never ever will that happen in this FUCKIN RANCID FOOTBALL COUNTRY OF SCOTLAND !
