Celtic are reported to have put in a £10m bid for Arne Engels.
The claim comes from Robbie Hanratty of the Glasgow Times who doesn’t have much of a track record on Celtic transfer stories.
Engels only moved to Augsburg in January 2023 for a token £100,000 fee from Club Brugge but seems to be Celtic’s main transfer target with just over two days left in the transfer window.
On Monday Anthony Joseph of Sky Sports reported a bid of £6.5m being put in, now it seems that an additional 50% has been found with the German side very much in the driving seat with negotiations.
Tonight the Glasgow Times reports:
Celtic are ramping up their pursuit of Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels, with a bid now at £10million.
Although the Bundesliga outfit still seek a higher amount, negotiations are ongoing to bring the 20-year-old to the Scottish giants before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Brendan Rodgers has identified the Belgian starlet as his primary choice to succeed Matt O’Riley, following the sale of their recent Player of the Year to Brighton on Monday for a club-record fee expected to total £30m.
Earlier today Celtic did announce the loan signing of Alex Valle from Barcelona to compete with Greg Taylor for the right back slot.
Celtic do appear to be leaving it very late to complete transfer business, tomorrow they will discover their Champions League opponents with the opening match just three weeks away.
UPDATE: Celtic are making an improved offer of £9m for Augsburg midfielder Arne Engels.
Augsburg rejected Celtic’s first offer of £6.5m & aren’t keen to sell.
However, Celtic are pushing for a deal with Brendan Rodgers very keen to sign Engels.
Talks continue.

We just DONT spend £10M on players.. This is BOLLOCKS!! If we offered £6.5M on Mon then we’ve probably upped it tae 7 but AIN’T NO WAY we’re going to 8 Figures! Liewell has his GRUBBY MITTS aw over this & until we REMOVE him it’ll remain the same!!
True
£10 million for a twenty year old seems quite steep. One for the future then?
Right £10 million is enough anything else is just taking the piss.
We walk away and leave the player there unhappy and let the Getnan club deal with the fallout.
No blame on the players part or ours.
They signed him not long ago for £100k and now want over £10m? Sounds like another club not a million miles away from here
If the board had pulled their fingers out of each others arxes early on, the price maybe wouldn’t have nearly doubled , we look desperate now and you can’t blame them from taking advantage of the idiots in charge.
And that’s if the rumour is true and not another ” we tried our best but couldn’t get the players in.” Another lawwell favourite.
