We are still short- Rodgers steps up his Celtic transfer demands

Brendan Rodgers has reinforced his demand that only quality can be added to the Celtic first team squad.

A year ago the emphasis was very much on younger, emerging talent with Odin Tiago Holm, Marco Tilio, Kwon Hyeok-kyu, Yang Hyun-jun and Maik Nawrocki all signed before the SPFL season got underway.

So far two goalkeepers have replaced the two that have left the club while Paulo Bernardo returned yesterday on a permanent basis from Benfica, the only outfield ‘addition’ to the squad.

There is no shortage of numbers in the Celtic squad but at the run-in to last season’s honours Rodgers reverted back to a trusted core that left the summer signings on the bench at best.

What did you emphasise when you sat down with the Recruitment Team?

It is always about quality, I think that is what is key. We had a good squad last season but we needed to improve on that, thus far we are even short on those numbers.

Paulo coming back is great but we are still short on that. The guys have been working so hard behind the scenes, we know what we need to do, I’m not going to get bogged down by the negative toxic energy that comes around transfers.

We will work with the players that we have, we know that we will make them better, we know as a club what we need to do, what we need to improve and we have just under four weeks to be able to do that.

Going into Sunday’s match against Kilmarnock Rodgers has one centre forward and one left-back in his squad.

If Kyogo Furuhashi or Greg Taylor pick up an injury the club will have to adapt other players or drastically step up their transfer activities.

With no midweek fixtures this month players will have time to settle in but 10 weeks on from the Scottish Cup final and four weeks away from the first Glasgow Derby of the season the timer is being set against Celtic’s recruitment plans.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

We used to sing a grand song at parties and the like called “We’re off to see the Wild West Show” Here’s an excerpt: And now ladies and gentlemen we have the Fukkawe Tribe. The Fukkawe is a most unusual tribe. They’re 4 ft 6 in Pygmies who live in 5 ft high grassland and you can often hear there plaintive cries: We’re the Fukkawe, where the fukk are we?

Which brings me to the “Recruitment Team” and “The guys have been working so hard behind the scenes………”
So: Who the fukk are they, where the fukk are they?

If Brendan is indeed a phone call away from Desmond then it’s high fukkin time he picked up that phone!

It’s embarrassing how this board, and Lawwell in particular treats the manager and the fans

I note on TheCelticBlog an article has been pulled, which I didn’t get the chance to read.
Judging by the comments, which are/were still available, the article was calling out Lawwell. If this is the case and he’s being silenced by that fukkin leech then every other genuine Celtic-minded site and every genuine Celtic supporter should support the author of that site in every conceivable manner. An assault on ONE of us is an assault on ALL of us. BIN THE BOARD, especially Lawwell but the rest have been placed by him and Desmond so we need to expel the whole fukkin lot of them.
Hail! Hail! The Glasgow Celtic, fukk the plc board to a man/woman!

I managed to see and read the post that was later withdrawn and it quite rightly didn’t paint a good picture of liewell and the board,I don’t know if James took it down himself or was pressurised into taking it down but it was a very good read . you’re right tictoc maybe it’s time the fans took some real action not banners or chants or tifos because they don’t bother this board,we need stronger action ie start cutting off the endless money that fans chuck at the board.too late for STs but CL tickets merchandise etc .
