After our 2023/24 consistency struggles as injuries seriously hampered manager Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the campaign, Celtic have hit the ground running in 2024/25 and with three matches played so far in the domestic Scottish Premiership campaign, we again top the table with nine points having won three of our opening three matches.

At this very early stage of the season, there is every reason for optimism and a belief that we will again have another successful year ahead of us. Our signings and squad strengthening so far have been minimal, but with Joe Hart’s retirement we have suitably bolstered the goalkeeping department with the captures of hugely experienced Kasper Schmeichel, and very highly rated stopper Viljami Sinisalo.

After all of our gaffers’ words in the January transfer window, Hoops fans can certainly expect a few more arrivals before the summer transfer window closes, and for those who like a flutter on transfer business, there will be a plethora of odds available on sites like premier bet malawi, and helping us financially on that score is the confirmation that we have now secured a £25 million transfer sale for Matt O’Riley.

The 23 year old, twice capped Denmark internationals future has long been up in the air this summer, but the expectations of many would be that he would make the move to Italy and their Serie A division, but with talks heavily falling down with pole position side, Atalanta, we have struck what appears to be a very quick deal with English Premier League team Brighton and Hove Albion.

The size of the transfer fee does fit the speculation that we have had for the last few months on how highly we valued the player, and it will undoubtedly be a good boost for Rodgers and his transfer plans as we not only look to the domestic league campaign and cups, but also everyone in the Parkhead faithful is looking for a far more fruitful European adventure this campaign.

O’Riley will undoubtedly be a massive loss for us, particularly in European competition given his talents, but his sale (if the money is used wisely) should improve us in all areas of the pitch and make us even more competitive moving forward.

Whilst Brighton are a bit left field as a destination, simply because they did not seem to feature that highly on the transfer rumour mill, O’Riley sort of admitted that their interest had spanned back quite a few months, but that the negotiations had been a little bit fraught and just took their time to get over the line as both clubs looked for the best possible deal they could find.

From our perspective, it is never good to lose such a talented player but we have maximised the transfer value and it matches Jota’s Al-Ittihad deal last summer, and Kieran Tierney’s switch to Arsenal back in 2019. It also should not be ignored that it represents a very profitable up lift on the £1.5 million fee we originally paid MK Dons for his services back in 2022.

O’Riley certainly had fond words for the club and fans as he announced his departure, but he admitted he felt that it was time for a new challenge, so undoubtedly fans will be looking on to see how he copes with the Premier League and what kind of impact he can actually have for the Amex outfit.

Now we simply see who comes in on the back of him leaving.
