Despair at the Record as Celtic take ‘O** F***’ accolade with win number 170

It’s not really a stat that Celtic fans bother too much about but when you have been living in denial for 12 years it is painful when you are stripped of one of your key comfort blankets.

The laughable claim of being The Most Successful Club In The World will be gone by Christmas if Celtic win the League Cup in December, yesterday as Captain Disappointed led his mates to failure another bogus honour was lost to the 2012 Tribute Act.

Yesterday Celtic enjoyed their 170th win over the two clubs from Ibrox, fittingly it was another 3-0 defeat, the same scoreline as in the last ‘Old Firm’ match in 2012 as Ally McCoist walked into liquidation with a cowardly performance as 52,000 Celts celebrated their last ever victory over a club founded in 1873 or 1872 but no-one is quite sure.

The Tribute Act founded by Charles Green has had the occasional freak result go in their favour, mainly through the Lockdown season but over the last few season the norm has been restored with Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers bossing it against a succession or brogue wearing losers.

Putting a brave face on the devastation of Sunday’s defeat Andy Newport, a good friend of John Beaton, spelled out the sickening figures to Daily Record readers:

And you can bet the Ibrox faithful will take no solace at all from the figures laying out just how far behind they’ve now fallen their bitter rivals. They make for bleak reading. Gers have lifted three of the last 30 domestic trophies versus Celtic’s count of 22.

It’s now two derbies wins in the last 16. The Parkhead side, meantime, have won 11 in that period. And when it comes to the all-time record in the fixtures, the Light Blues have now seen Celtic steal ahead with their 170th win having led the race for decades.

As for Clement, he’s now gone five head-to-heads with the Hoops and is still no nearer to a first victory. His number isn’t up yet, certainly not after the Ibrox board in their wisdom decided to dish out a new four-year deal earlier this month. But Clement doesn’t need to be a mathematician to know improvements are required eventually if he’s to avoid being subtracted from the Ibrox equation.

The two clubs are due to meet in the SPFL on January 2 at a venue still to be announced, there could be a League Cup tie before then with serious doubts over whether Phil Clement will still be in charge.

It looks like Alex Rae and Barry Ferguson are positioning themselves to take charge but that does open up the uber-staunch option of co-managers with two men that know the traditions of the club, and the fear of those brown envelopes from HMRC over the disguised remuneration that they took part in under the Dave Murray regime.

Inaction does what he does best …drowns his sorrows in lagers for breakfast ! God almighty ,that gang of fence erectors are inconsolable at their clumpany being dismantled and hammered into the ground in yesterday’s one sided Glasgow derby . They are also highly aware that while their pet project are travelling on a boat with a hole in the keel , Celtic FC is travelling on a luxurious bullet train ….whoooosshhhh !
