John Gilligan is trying just too hard to reassure the media that Phil Clement is safe in his job.
With Giovanni van Bronckhorst lasting 12 months and Micky Beale two months less A Proper Football Manager is entering into dangerous territory.
Falling seven points behind Celtic after nine SPFL matches couples with a Champions League KO from PSV Eindhoven led to Beale being sacked on October 2 last year.
Setting a Champions League record pushed van Bronckhorst over the edge as well as a 4-0 and 3-0 defeats at Celtic Park. 21 November was the day that the Dutchman got his pay off.
On August 2 Clement signed an extended contract at Ibrox, with the Chairman and CEOs that appointed him no longer at the club the next downturn in results could prove fateful for the Belgian Beale.
Gilligan, a founder member of the Chinless Loyal with Douglas Park, was on the board that appointed Pedro Caixinha as manager which illustrates his knowledge of football.

He had a great relationship with John [Bennett] and I’m hoping I can pick up from that, but I have to stress that we will not interfere on the football side. Philippe’s the manager and he’s in charge of all aspects of football.

Daily Record touting him for the Anderlecht job. Clearly trying to create a “get out of jail free” option to convince their elderly Hun readership that, not only can they bin their manager without an eye-watering compensation payoff this time, but that someone might actually be prepared to pay a compensation fee for him to take him off their hands. So that contract extension was good business after all!
Except that this seems to be based on little more than an off-the-cuff remark by a former player doing some TV punditry, who said they should look at him for the job. Bit like the way they tried to make out he was going to be the next Belgium manager, because they desperately trawled the net to find a statement from anyone with even a tangential link to Belgian football that even vaguely mentioned him in connection with the job.
