Danilo and Rabbi Matondo have been left out of Phil Clement’s squad for eight Europa League matches that stretch through until January.

Summer signing Clinton Nsiala, compared to a young Franco Baresi when he left AC Milan at the end of his contract is also missing from the squad listed today by UEFA which has been reduced to 21 names since there are only four Scottish trained players in the squad, two of whom are goalkeepers without a minute of first team action between them.

Danilo was signed for £6m from Feryenoord last summer by Micky Beale and given a contract comparable with Kemar Roofe or John Lundstram to match his status in the squad.

After injuring a knee away to Hearts last December he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes with rumours on social media that he is currently back in a knee brace.

Before the Champions League exit to Dinamo Kiev a club video showed Danilio limping down the tunnel, questioned about that Clement claimed that was the way he walked.

The 25-year-old was given 45 minutes at home to St Johnstone, scored in the highly impressive win over Ross County but never got off the bench against Celtic.

Matondo lasted half an hour against Celtic before finding an injury, it looks like it will be long term if he isn’t named in the Europa League squad which contains five players- Liam Kelly, Lewis Budinauckas, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Nedim Bajrami and Hamza Igmane- who have never started a match.

Spurs, Manchester United, Lyon, Nice and Olympiakos are among their Europa League opponents with a venue for home matches and ticket package still to be decided.

Perhaps The Currant Buns are going for the double. Worst team ever in the Chamions League and worst team ever in the Europa League.
