With austerity biting deep at Ibrox Phil Clement will have to do without a £2m a year striker going into the Europa League.
Danilo has been restricted to starting the League Cup tie against St Johnstone, a match that he lasted 45 minutes, plus a couple of substitute appearances so far this season.
Against Celtic on Sunday he never got off the bench with social media reports that he is using a knee brace despite more than two months of full training.
Last summer Micky Beale had already spent heavily on Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers but the message was put out that Dessers was the deal that he wanted to finish off his assault on Celtic’s domination.
Joy among loyal bears was widespread as they prepared for Beale II after Todd Cantwell and Nicky Raskin had laid down a marker to Scottish football that Beale’s time had come to step up from being the Brains Behind Gerrard.

Discussing the €7m transfer fee in July 2023 Football Scotland reported:
De Telegraaf are reporting that the Dutch giants will seriously consider Rangers’ new and improved ‘take it or leave it’ offer on Monday, while also disclosing the salary Danilo could earn if indeed his wish to sign for the Light Blues is granted by his current employers.
The same report says that the striker – who scored 14 goals last season for Feyenoord – could earn a whopping €45k per week at Rangers, which works out at almost £39k or just over £2million per annum.
That may explain why Danilo is champing at the bit to get the deal done because with those wages, he’d be set to DOUBLE the salary he earns at Feyenoord.
While being spared the Thursday night clashes with Spurs, Manchester United, Nice and Lyon Danilo will be available to play in the SPFL- if he is fit.
Rabbi Matondo and Ianis Hagi are also out of the Europa League squad which is reduced to 21 players due to the lack of Scottish developed players- only John Souttar, Connor Barron, Lian Kelly and Lewis Budinauckas meet that criteria.
Danilo is under contract until May 2028 and is believed to be very happy with his move to Scotland, Beale is currently searching for exciting new opportunities.
Danilo has undergone a tidy-up procedure on his knee and has returned to Holland for rehabilitation.

Spurs had Darren Anderton sevco have Danilo.
Not quite as much of a debacle as Rangers signing the late Daniel Prodan, but all the same… is it still common practice for them not to do a medical on players before signing them?
