Colin Steven will referee Celtic’s match against Hearts on Saturday.
The Perthshire based schoolteacher has been on the Premiership circuit for the last couple of years but Saturday’s match will be the first time that he has taken charge of a Celtic match.
Traditionally the Celtic v Hearts match is one of the highest profile in the Scottish game, being put in charge of Saturday’s match suggests that Willie Collum is looking to push Steven into the top bracket of match officials.
Alan Muir will be on VAR duty with the Aberdeenshire based official one of the most experienced on call to the SFA.
While Celtic have started the season with a 100% record the pressure is mounting on Steven Naismith at Tynecastle despite being given a contract extension last month.
Other than a goal-less draw against Phil Clement’s side on the opening day of the season Hearts have lost every other match while being knocked out of the League Cup and dropping from the Europa League into the UEFA Conference.
Last season Hearts did beat Celtic home and away but with five wins so far this season and confidence sky high the hoops will go into Saturday’s match as strong favourites to take full points.

Well then a new name and virgin referee for Celtic and Parkhead…
Hopefully his Perthshire background will see him be a breath of fresh air for Scottish Football and a move away from all The Cheats with Whistles, Flags and Monitors, However I’m not holding ma breath on that one happening…
Still everyone needs to be given a chance, but that Muir on VAR is definitely worth a bloody watching for sure !
Alan Muir is a crooked hun c*nt
Be another VAR call which ends up with the fans chanting
Orrraaaangggeeee Baaaastaaarddddds
Colin Steven has been the referee for One Celtic game.
It was in the behind closed doors season in our 2-0 home victory against Hamilton.?
I read this morning that it was Dallas on VAR for the diet’s game.
Dallas for their game yet AGAIN…
That’s any concept of Dundee United emerging victorious blown to smithereenes then !
Yep
Not good enough to be a ref
But he’s in the VAR room on our game one week and in one of theirs the next week
He also seems to get a hell of a lot of games on VAR when they play at Ibrox
Very suspect
