PERTH, SCOTLAND - SEPTEMBER 28: Referee Don Robertson consults the VAR monitor before disallowing Daizen Maeda's goal during a William Hill Scottish Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park, on September 28, 2024, in Perth, Scotland. Brendan Rodgers has hit out at the decision to disallow a first half ‘goal’ from Daizen Maeda during Celtic’s 6-0 win away to St Johnstone.
With the match goal-less the home defence failed to clear a free kick from the right, as the ball dropped 15 yards from goal Maeda fired in an unstoppable shot that looked to have given the hoops the lead.
As the ball flew into the net Graham Carey lay on the ground eight yards from goal with celebrations in full flow in the stand behind him.
The traditional VAR check resulted in play being paused, Alan Muir told Don Robertson to carry out a pitchside review and suddenly the opener was in question- play was about to restart with a free kick to St Johnstone.
Away from the vicinity of the ball Carey had ran out and collided with Auston Trusty, there is lots of penalty box contact at corners and free kicks with the clash tonight carrying no intent from either player, Trusty stayed on his feet, Carey didn’t.
Daizen Maeda with a stunning volley!
But the goal is disallowed after a VAR check for a foul in the box ?#STJCEL pic.twitter.com/hfrZX840jJ

The Daily Record reports Rodgers saying:
It should never have been disallowed. Auston loses his marker and their player steps into his space and bumps him.
But then, again, we pick ourselves up, we go, we play some great football and score some really, really good goals.
Despite that 28th minute blow Celtic scored three times before the break and added three more in the second half.

Neither player was looking at each other, both were looking at the ball, and they collided.
By the VAR reasoning, if Trusty had gone down and Carey remained on his feet, it would have been a penalty.
The cynic in me thinks that the goal was chopped off because the score was nothing each.
As if we needed to know why the head of VAR legged it out of Scottish football?
Can’t blame the fella, as trying to teach completely thick cheating arse holes, how to determine simple decisions must be mind boggling for such an unfortunate?
Usual tactics that cheating officials play into, with players throwing themselves to the ground and winning free kicks?
Total embarrassing for Scottish football still regarding the decision making within the game?
Thankfully we produced some outstanding football with the quality of the goals that did count, so these cheating bastards of officials aren’t allowed to take centre stage, no matter how hard they try against ourselves?
Probably legged it due to every question put to ref’s by him were met with the same response, penalty rangers.
Nothing deliberate.
Accidental clash away from play.
Ball would still be in the net if no contact.
Deliberate denial of a goal.
Ask yourself this if the goal were scored by Sevco, would it be disallowed
That cheating is an absolute fucking disgrace just as our Chairman is, for doing nothing about it repeatedly, year after year. Scumbag!
At least Brendan called it out but in a relatively quiet manner.
Collum should be MADE to ‘explain’ just how TF Daizen’s goal was chalked off. Honest mistake? I thought VAR was supposed to correct those glaring errors?
Muir (VAR) alerts Robertrson (to Robertson’s delight) and Robertson decides immediately he goes to the screen, it’s a cracking goal but it’s also for Celtic and it’s an opener so, NO GOAL!
FFS, and that piecea shit of a Chairman does NOTHING. Peter Lawwell GET TAE FUCK, ya renegade slug!
