Graeme Souness believes that a £50m investment in new players can solve the hurt and pain over Ibrox.

The former Sky Sports pundit has become increasingly desperate over the last few months as he attempts to become relevant in Scottish football.

Appearing on podcasts and radio stations to make his views known from afar, making Kris Boyd and Barry Ferguson seem thoughtful and intelligent as they deal with the realities of the dismantling of another club from Ibrox.

It seems that Football Sustainability Rules have passed Souness by, much like Income Tax rules did with his close friend Dave Murray.

Newcastle United, Aston Villa and other English sides are backed by billionaire owners, not from Motherwell, but can’t pump money into their clubs with Eddie Howe especially frustrated through the recent transfer window.

If £50m was donated to Ibrox most of it would go on paying off loans to Directors and ridding the club of the legacy contracts that put James Taverner, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence out of reach for other clubs.

A £50m investment in players would transform every club in Scotland but clutching to the illegal ways of the past that funded Dick Advocaat and Alex McLeish Souness sees that sort of donation as the cure for his current pains.

Picking up on his appearance on yet another podcast the Daily Record reports Souness saying:

Right now, there is gap between Rangers and Celtic, but it’s not insurmountable. Three or four quality signings could make the difference, but Rangers don’t have the money right now. If they were to spend £50 million, it’d be nip and tuck between the two of them.

Rangers were the same as Liverpool last season, both could have won the league if they’d won the last ten games, and neither of them did it.

Celtic were the better team, I’m not denying that, I just didn’t think that Rangers got pummelled in the Old Firm derby.

Rangers just need money now. They finished second last year and spent £14 million on new players, Celtic spent double that and they won the league. They still managed to come second against them despite spending half the money. They just need an influx of money, that’s all it is.

Phil Clement was given more money to spend during the transfer window than Brendan Rodgers who turned in a £10m trading profit through selling Matt O’Riley and others such as Mikey Johnston, Bosun Lawal, Oh Hyeon-gyu and Sead Haksabanovic.

Over the last week Souness has been picking up media fees from TalkSPORT, William Hill and The Warm Up.
