PERTH, SCOTLAND - SEPTEMBER 28: Referee Don Robertson consults the VAR monitor before disallowing Daizen Maeda's goal during a William Hill Scottish Premiership match between St Johnstone and Celtic at McDiarmid Park, on September 28, 2024, in Perth, Scotland. Alan Muir failed to derail Celtic as they crushed St Johnstone 6-0 to maintain their 100% record and top spot in the SPFL.
It was an awesome display from the champions as they turned on the style against a side that had very little attacking intentions despite playing at home.
Despite the scoreline the match was still goal-less after half an hour with Alan Muir on VAR duty taking the credit for that.
In the 28th minute it looked like Celtic had taken the lead with a stunning strike from Daizen Maeda after the home side had failed to clear a corner.
Help was at hand however as Muir in the VAR studio scanned for a reason to disallow the ‘goal’, coming up with an incident that underlined that he has no understanding of football.
Graham Carey opted to run into Auston Trusty, fell to the deck and waited to be noticed. Muir obliged, reviewed it and recommended that Don Robertson should take another look at it on the pitchside monitor.
Robertson had already demonstrated his game management, as soon as he headed to the monitor the outcome was secure with Maeda’s effort disallowed and the game restarting goal-less.
This Alan Muir? https://t.co/9l5Labyues

For reasons unknown Muir has been promoted to the cushy job of being a full-time VAR official, joining the ‘elite’ group that consists of Andrew Dallas and Greig Aitken.
Muir will forever be associated with the Josh Meekings handball in the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle.
Only in Scotland would he have survived a further decade at the top level rewarded by a lucrative full time job as reward.
On Friday the SFA announced that VAR Manager Jon Moss had quit after less than two months in the job for an as yet unknown ‘lifechanging’ opportunity.
Let this sink in, people at the Scottish FA once thought Alan Muir was one of 7 best referees in Scotland and promoted him to FIFA level – he unbelievably lasted 3 years before being demoted!!

I miss fitbaw where two guys who run into each other and you’d just call it a 50/50
If Trusty wasn’t fuckin solid, and also went down, that wouldn’t be a foul pic.twitter.com/ZiEvdP0Bw1

Has he decided that he’s just not bigoted enough for the job? ? pic.twitter.com/U7xxKgaZgQ

I’m looking forward to seeing what Willie Collum says about this one…

He sussed the cheating bastards out and bolted to get out PRONTO style, and the first goal being chopped off is proof of that.
One and 2 goals will never be enough to see teams off this season,we will need the belt and braces of at least 3 goals
to have a cushion of protecting that lead.
Its harsh to say Carey opted to run into Trusty. It was a collision, but certainly not a foul. The interesting one for me is, why did Moss so suddenly jump ship and why the silence? Was he not prepared to join the circus in front of him? Is he too proud to have his reputation tarnished by the goings on at the sFA? Something doesnt sit right
It is more non – sense from the officials.
Sadly, that is the best we’ve got and so, it isn’t going to get better any time soon!
