It might just have been the skill of the photographer but Daizen Maeda did seem to pause for a moment to take in the spectacle of a Champions League huddle.
Pre-match he had joined his team-mates for a huddle as they embarked on what was hoped to be a new Champions League adventure starting with Slovan Bratislava.
Truth be told there has been an edge missing from Champions League nights at Celtic Park in recent seasons but not last night as the players and supporters fused to banish the bad memories of too many celebrating visitors.
It did seem a little premature but soon after Kyogo Furuhashi scored Celtic’s second goal most of the stadium broke into a huddle. For a moment it seemed that Maeda looked away from the pitch to see what was going on around him.
The goals weren’t overwith, Arne Engels put Celtic 3-0 up, Slovan posted a warning by pegging one back but Maeda and Adam Idah rounded the night off to give Celtic their biggest ever Champions League victory.
With at least three more home matches to look forward to Maeda could be in for a few more memorable Celtic Park nights as supporters dare to dream.
